Overview

Nebicard 5mg Tablet contains nebivolol 5mg, a highly selective beta-1 blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and, in some patients, stable chronic heart failure.

Nebivolol works by blocking beta-1 receptors in the heart to slow heart rate and reduce the force of contraction, while also promoting the release of nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels – together these actions lower blood pressure and reduce the heart’s workload.

How it Works

Nebivolol selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, reducing heart rate and cardiac output. It also stimulates endothelial nitric oxide release, causing vasodilation, which further contributes to lowering blood pressure with less effect on the lungs’ beta-2 receptors than older beta-blockers.

Directions for Use

Take Nebicard 5mg Tablet at about the same time every day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as abruptly stopping a beta-blocker can cause a rebound increase in heart rate, blood pressure, or chest pain.

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Nebicard 5mg Tablet for hypertension is 5mg once daily, which your doctor may adjust based on your blood pressure response. Your doctor will determine the right dose for your condition, and may start at a lower dose if you have kidney or liver problems.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

  • NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen) may reduce the blood-pressure-lowering effect of nebivolol

Quick Tips

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nebicard 5mg Tablet used for?

Nebicard 5mg Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure and, in some patients, stable chronic heart failure. Your doctor will confirm the specific reason it has been prescribed for you.

Can I stop taking this medicine once my blood pressure is normal?

No, do not stop without consulting your doctor. Stopping a beta-blocker suddenly can cause a rebound rise in heart rate, blood pressure, or chest pain, and high blood pressure often has no symptoms even when it is not controlled.

Can people with asthma take this medicine?

Nebivolol is more heart-selective than older beta-blockers, but it should still be used with caution and close monitoring in people with asthma or bronchospastic disease – discuss your respiratory history with your doctor.

Will this medicine slow my heart rate?

Yes, a slower heart rate is an expected effect. Contact your doctor if your pulse feels unusually slow, or if you experience dizziness or fainting.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Nebicard 5mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
