Overview

Nicorette 25mg/16h Transdermal Patch (Step 1) is a patch with Nicotine 25 mg per patch, delivering approximately 25 mg over 16 hours declared as its active content. It is supplied in a pack size of 7s.

This is a non-prescription product and can be purchased without a prescription. Only product, safety and handling details are published on this page.

An online consultation with a DoctorOnCall doctor or pharmacist is available for this product, and a registered pharmacist reviews each order before dispatch to Malaysia or Singapore. Follow the directions on the label and on the leaflet inside the pack.

Directions for Use

Apply one new patch each morning to clean, dry, non-hairy skin on the hip, chest, upper arm, or back, pressing it firmly in place for a few seconds. Remove the patch after about 16 hours (typically before bed, following the manufacturer’s recommended wear time), and apply a fresh patch to a different skin site the next day to reduce skin irritation. Step 1 (25mg/16h) is usually used for around the first 8 weeks of the program, or as advised by a pharmacist, before stepping down to the Step 2 (15mg/16h) patch.

Dosage

Apply one 25mg/16h patch daily, worn for 16 hours and then removed, generally for about the first 8 weeks of a typical 10-to-12-week program, unless a pharmacist advises a different schedule based on smoking history. Do not apply more than one patch at a time or use for longer than recommended without seeking advice, as this increases the risk of nicotine-related side effects.

Shelf Life

Nicorette Transdermal Patches typically have a shelf life of around 2 to 3 years from manufacture when stored correctly and unopened; check the expiry date printed on the sachet and carton before use. Do not use a patch beyond its expiry date, as nicotine release may no longer be reliable.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, keeping each patch sealed in its individual sachet until ready to use. Keep out of reach and sight of children and pets, and dispose of used patches carefully by folding the sticky sides together, as used patches still contain enough nicotine to be harmful, especially to children and animals.

Side Effects

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or stomach discomfort
  • Dry mouth or throat irritation
  • Increased heart rate
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Skin irritation (with patch use)

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to nicotine or any component of the patch
  • Non-smokers and children (not intended for use)
  • Recent heart attack, unstable or worsening angina, or serious irregular heart rhythm, unless a doctor has advised otherwise
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless a doctor has assessed that the benefits outweigh the risks compared with continued smoking
  • Severe skin conditions affecting the patch application sites

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Nicotine can affect how quickly the body processes certain medicines when a person stops smoking, including some medicines for asthma, depression, and heart conditions, so dosage of these may need review
  • Theophylline, clozapine, and other medicines broken down via the same liver pathway affected by smoking may reach higher blood levels after quitting, and doses may need adjustment by a doctor
  • Avoid combining with other nicotine replacement products or cigarettes at the same time unless directed by a doctor or pharmacist (to avoid excess nicotine intake)
  • Caffeine and alcohol intake may need monitoring, as smoking cessation itself can change how the body handles them

Quick Tips

  • Set a quit date and start Step 1 on or just before that date
  • Apply the patch first thing in the morning to a clean, dry, hairless area and remove after 16 hours
  • Rotate the application site each day to reduce skin irritation
  • Follow the full recommended program length and progress to Step 2 on schedule for the best chance of success
  • Do not smoke while using the patch, as this can increase nicotine-related side effects
  • Combine patch use with behavioural support (counselling, quitlines) for higher success rates

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Nicotine 25 mg per patch, delivering approximately 25 mg over 16 hours
  • Adhesive matrix transdermal patch
  • Backing film and release liner
  • Formulated for external skin (transdermal) use only
