Overview

Norvir 100mg Tablet contains Ritonavir 100mg and is available as a tablet. It is classified as a prescription medicine and may only be obtained with a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner.

Only product, safety and handling information is published here. Anything beyond that is explained to you directly by your doctor or pharmacist as part of your consultation.

DoctorOnCall is a licensed online pharmacy. Orders for Norvir 100mg Tablet are processed only after a doctor has assessed your suitability and issued a prescription, and every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is sent out.

Directions for Use

Take Norvir 100mg Tablet tablets with food to improve tolerability, swallowing them whole with water – do not chew or crush the tablets. Take it at the same time(s) each day, exactly as instructed by your HIV specialist, alongside your other antiretroviral medicines, and never miss doses, as consistent levels are essential for the regimen to work.

Dosage

The dose and timing of Norvir 100mg Tablet as a booster is determined entirely by your HIV specialist, based on which other protease inhibitor it is being combined with, and is taken as part of a fixed combination antiretroviral regimen. Never change your dose, skip doses, or stop this medicine on your own, as doing so can reduce the effectiveness of your entire HIV treatment regimen and contribute to drug resistance.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Headache
  • Dizziness

  • Changes in taste
  • Increased cholesterol or triglyceride levels

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to ritonavir or any ingredient in this product
  • Co-administration with numerous medicines that depend on CYP3A4 for clearance and have a narrow safety margin, including certain statins (e.g. simvastatin, lovastatin), ergot alkaloids, oral midazolam, and certain antiarrhythmics – your HIV specialist and pharmacist will screen your full medicine list for these

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Ritonavir is a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor with an extensive range of drug interactions – always disclose every prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal product you take to your HIV specialist and pharmacist before starting or changing any medicine
  • Certain statins (simvastatin, lovastatin) must not be combined with ritonavir due to a markedly increased risk of severe muscle toxicity
  • Hormonal contraceptives may become less effective, so alternative or additional contraception may be needed
  • St John’s Wort and other strong CYP3A4 inducers can significantly reduce ritonavir’s effectiveness as a booster and should be avoided

Quick Tips

  • Never stop, skip, or adjust the dose of this medicine without first speaking to your HIV specialist
  • Take with food and at consistent times each day alongside your other antiretroviral medicines
  • Always tell every doctor, dentist, or pharmacist you see that you are taking ritonavir, due to its extensive interaction potential
  • Do not start any new medicine, supplement, or herbal product without checking with your HIV specialist or pharmacist first
  • Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments and blood tests to monitor your treatment
