Nurtec 75 mg Oral Lyophilisate

Nurtec 75 mg Oral Lyophilisate contains rimegepant 75mg, a calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks (with or without aura) in adults. It is formulated as an oral lyophilisate that dissolves on or under the tongue without needing to be swallowed with water.

Rimegepant works by blocking the CGRP receptor, preventing CGRP, a protein released during a migraine attack that causes blood vessels around the brain to widen and triggers pain signalling, from producing its effects. This helps relieve the headache and associated symptoms of a migraine attack.

During a migraine attack, CGRP is released from nerve endings around the brain’s blood vessels, causing the vessels to dilate and activating pain pathways in the trigeminal nerve system. Rimegepant blocks the CGRP receptor, preventing CGRP from binding and triggering this cascade, which helps relieve the migraine headache and associated symptoms such as nausea and sensitivity to light or sound.

With dry hands, peel back the foil of the blister pack – do not push the tablet through the foil, as this can damage it. Place the Nurtec 75 mg Oral Lyophilisate tablet on top of or under your tongue as soon as you feel a migraine starting, and allow it to dissolve completely without chewing or swallowing it whole. It can be taken with or without food or liquid.

The usual dose of Nurtec 75 mg Oral Lyophilisate is one oral lyophilisate taken as soon as possible at the onset of a migraine attack. Only one dose should generally be taken within a 24-hour period for a single attack. Your doctor will advise on the maximum recommended frequency of use per month, as CGRP antagonists are not intended for unrestricted daily use.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Stomach discomfort or indigestion
• Dry mouth
• Abdominal pain
• Serious: signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as facial or throat swelling or difficulty breathing, can occur even after previous doses have been well tolerated and require immediate medical attention

• Known hypersensitivity to rimegepant or any ingredient in this product
• Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir), which can significantly increase rimegepant levels

• Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) can markedly increase rimegepant blood levels and should not be combined
• Strong CYP3A4 inducers (e.g. rifampicin, carbamazepine, St John’s Wort) can reduce rimegepant’s effectiveness and are generally best avoided
• P-glycoprotein inhibitors may also increase rimegepant exposure
• No specific food restrictions are required, though the tablet should be allowed to dissolve without water

• Take the dose as soon as migraine symptoms start for the best chance of relief
• Handle the tablet with dry hands and place it under or on the tongue rather than swallowing it whole
• Keep track of how often you use this medicine and discuss frequency of use with your doctor
• Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, particularly anything affecting liver enzymes
• Seek urgent care if you notice facial swelling or difficulty breathing after a dose, even if previous doses were fine
