Overview

Patanol 0.1% Eye Drop Solution is supplied as eye drops, with Olopatadine hydrochloride, equivalent to 0.1% w/v olopatadine base. It is supplied in a pack size of 5ml.

No prescription is required for this product, as it is a non-prescription medicine. This page is limited to product, safety and handling information.

If you would like guidance before buying, you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist through an online consultation on DoctorOnCall. Orders are dispensed by a registered pharmacist and delivered to your address.

Directions for Use

Wash your hands before use. Tilt the head back slightly, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instil one drop into the affected eye without letting the dropper tip touch the eye, eyelid or any surface. Close the eye gently for a minute or two and apply light pressure at the inner corner of the eye to reduce drainage into the tear duct. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying Patanol and wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting them, as the preservative in the solution can be absorbed by soft lenses. Use the drops at the times and dosing interval advised by your doctor.

Dosage

The usual adult dose is one drop instilled into each affected eye twice daily, roughly 6 to 8 hours apart. Your doctor will confirm the exact dosing schedule and duration of treatment based on the severity of your allergic conjunctivitis; do not use more often or in a higher amount than prescribed, and do not stop or restart treatment without checking with your doctor first.

Shelf Life

Patanol should be used within the expiry date printed on the bottle and carton while it remains sealed and unopened. Once the bottle has been opened, it is generally recommended to discard any remaining solution after 4 weeks, even if some liquid is left, because sterility can no longer be guaranteed. Always check the expiry date before each use and never use the product past that date.

Storage Instructions

Store Patanol below 25 degrees Celsius, away from direct sunlight and heat, and keep the bottle tightly closed between uses. Keep it out of reach and sight of children and pets, and do not use the drops if the solution has changed colour or become cloudy. Do not freeze the solution.

Side Effects

  • Mild stinging, burning or discomfort immediately after instilling the drops
  • Headache
  • Dry eyes or a foreign-body (gritty) sensation in the eye
  • Temporary blurred vision right after application
  • Eye redness or irritation
  • Dry mouth or an unusual taste sensation
  • Nasal dryness or mild allergic-type reactions in some users
  • Eyelid swelling in rare cases, which should be reported to your doctor promptly

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity or allergy to olopatadine or any other ingredient in the solution
  • Not to be used to treat irritation caused by wearing contact lenses; it is for allergic symptoms, not lens-related discomfort
  • Use with caution and only under a doctor’s guidance in young children, as safety and dosing in very young age groups should be individually assessed
  • Not to be self-prescribed; a doctor must confirm the diagnosis of allergic conjunctivitis before use
  • Inform your doctor if you have any other active eye condition or recent eye surgery before starting Patanol

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Olopatadine eye drops have minimal absorption into the bloodstream, so significant interactions with oral medicines or food are uncommon, but you should still tell your doctor about all medicines you use
  • Inform your doctor if you are using any other eye drops or ointments, including lubricating eye drops, other antihistamine or anti-inflammatory eye preparations
  • If more than one type of eye drop is prescribed, space them at least 5 to 10 minutes apart so one does not wash out the other
  • Discuss with your doctor if you are also taking oral antihistamines or other allergy medicines, so treatment can be coordinated

Quick Tips

  • Use Patanol only as prescribed by your doctor and complete the course as advised, even if symptoms improve quickly
  • Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 10 minutes before putting them back in
  • Wash your hands before each use and avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including your eye, to prevent contamination
  • Keep follow-up appointments with your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a few days or if they worsen
  • Do not share your prescribed eye drops with another person, even if they have similar symptoms
  • Store the bottle upright and tightly capped when not in use

How long will delivery take?

Within Malaysia, standard delivery takes 3 to 5 working days. Same-day delivery is available in the Klang Valley for orders placed before 12pm; orders placed after 12pm arrive by the end of the next day.

Orders to Singapore are sent as international deliveries and take 5 to 9 working days. A lump-sum shipping and handling fee applies to every overseas delivery and is shown at checkout.

What payment methods can I use?

Customers in Malaysia can pay by FPX online banking, credit or debit card (Visa and Mastercard), and supported e-wallets including Touch ‘n Go eWallet, GrabPay and ShopeePay.

FPX and local e-wallets are tied to Malaysian bank and wallet accounts, so if your delivery address is in Singapore, use the payment options displayed at checkout for that address rather than assuming the same list applies.

Can Patanol 0.1% Eye Drop Solution be delivered to Singapore?

Yes. DoctorOnCall ships to Singapore as an international order dispatched from Malaysia, arriving in 5 to 9 working days with a lump-sum shipping and handling fee.

Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) allows personal imports of up to three months’ supply of a medicine for your own use or an immediate family member’s, as long as it contains no controlled drugs, psychotropic substances or prohibited items. Keep the product in its original labelled packaging and keep a copy of your prescription or doctor’s letter with it. Quantities above three months’ supply, and medicines containing controlled substances, require prior HSA approval.

Is Patanol 0.1% Eye Drop Solution registered with the authorities?

Products listed on DoctorOnCall are registered with Malaysia’s Ministry of Health for supply in Malaysia, and each pack carries its MAL registration number.

An order delivered to Singapore arrives as a personal import of a Malaysia-registered product; HSA product registration is not required for personal-use quantities, but it is also not the same as a product registered for sale in Singapore. If you need a locally registered Singapore product, buy it from a pharmacy in Singapore.

Who do I contact if there is a problem with my order?

DoctorOnCall’s customer care team handles order, delivery and product queries through the contact channels on the site, including WhatsApp and the online help centre.

For deliveries to Singapore, allow more time before chasing an order than you would for a local Malaysian delivery, as the parcel passes through customs clearance and tracking updates can appear later in the journey.

Relevant Information

Allergic conjunctivitis is commonly triggered by pollen, dust mites, pet dander or haze conditions and can significantly affect daily comfort and quality of life if left untreated. Patanol is a prescription-only antihistamine and mast-cell-stabilizing eye drop, which means a doctor’s assessment is required to confirm the diagnosis, rule out infective or other causes of red or itchy eyes, and check for contact lens use or other eye conditions before it is prescribed. Customers in Malaysia and Singapore can consult a doctor online through DoctorOnCall to determine whether Patanol is suitable, and should continue to have periodic follow-up if allergy symptoms are recurrent or long-standing.
