Polylab Hydrogen Peroxide 6% Solution

Polylab Hydrogen Peroxide 6% Solution is an over-the-counter topical antiseptic solution containing 6% w/v hydrogen peroxide in purified water, supplied in a 100ml bottle. It is a stronger-strength formulation than the 3% hydrogen peroxide solutions commonly found in Malaysian first-aid kits, and belongs to the oxidising-antiseptic class of products.

Because this solution is more concentrated than the 3% strength, it should be handled with a little more care, particularly around sensitive skin or in children, and is not intended for repeated daily application to the same area. It is for external use only and is not intended for use in the eyes, ears, or mouth unless specifically directed and appropriately diluted by a healthcare professional.

Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidising agent that releases oxygen on contact with the catalase enzyme present in blood and damaged tissue, producing a bubbling or fizzing action, alongside a mild antimicrobial effect. At this 6% concentration, the effervescent and antiseptic action is more pronounced than at the common 3% household strength, and this also carries a higher chance of stinging or irritating the surrounding healthy skin if used too liberally or too frequently.

Clean the affected area first if visibly soiled. Apply a small amount of the solution directly to the area or with a clean cotton pad, and allow it to bubble for a few seconds, which helps lift debris from the wound surface. Wipe away gently with a clean pad or allow to air-dry. Because this is a 6% concentration, avoid excessive or prolonged contact with the intact healthy skin around the wound, and rinse with clean water if irritation occurs. Do not use in the eyes, ears, or mouth unless a healthcare professional has specifically directed a properly diluted use. Wash hands before and after application.

Not applicable in the conventional sense, as this product is for external, topical use only and is not dosed as an internal or oral medicine. Apply to the affected area once to three times daily as needed, or as directed by a healthcare professional, and avoid repeated daily use on the same wound over an extended period.

Use before the expiry date printed on the bottle. Hydrogen peroxide solution gradually loses potency over time, and more quickly once opened, so it should be used within the period stated on the label after first opening and discarded if it appears discoloured or no longer fizzes on contact with a wound.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat, as hydrogen peroxide degrades on exposure to light, and this is more concentrated than standard first-aid strength. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and store well out of reach of children, given the higher concentration.

Polylab Hydrogen Peroxide 6% Solution is formulated for short-term, occasional external application. Because it is more concentrated than 3% hydrogen peroxide, it should not replace proper professional assessment of a deeper injury, and repeated application to the same area over several days without professional advice may irritate healthy tissue.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical or pharmacist advice if a wound shows signs of infection, such as increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or fever, if a wound is deep, large, or caused by an animal or human bite, if the solution is accidentally splashed in the eyes (rinse thoroughly with clean water and seek care), or if it is accidentally swallowed.
