Overview

Prelica 150mg Capsule contains pregabalin 150mg, an anticonvulsant (gabapentinoid) medicine used to manage neuropathic (nerve-related) pain, as an add-on treatment for certain types of seizures, and for generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). It is commonly prescribed for pain caused by diabetic nerve damage, nerve pain after shingles, or nerve pain from spinal cord injury.

Pregabalin binds to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels on nerve endings in the brain and spinal cord. This reduces the calcium influx that triggers the release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate and noradrenaline, calming the overactive nerve signalling responsible for neuropathic pain, seizures, and anxiety symptoms.

How it Works

By binding to the alpha-2-delta subunit of calcium channels on overactive nerves, pregabalin reduces the release of pain- and excitability-related neurotransmitters, dampening the abnormal nerve signalling that causes neuropathic pain, seizure activity, and excessive anxiety-related arousal.

Directions for Use

Take Prelica 150mg Capsule capsules with or without food, swallowing them whole with a glass of water. Do not stop this medicine suddenly without your doctor’s guidance, as abrupt discontinuation after regular use can cause withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, nausea, headache, or anxiety – your doctor will advise on tapering the dose gradually if it needs to be stopped.

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Prelica 150mg Capsule is 75mg twice daily, which your doctor may increase gradually based on your response and tolerability, up to a maximum dose that depends on the condition being treated. Dosing is individualised, and a lower dose is used for patients with reduced kidney function, so always follow your doctor’s specific instructions.

How long does it take for pregabalin to work?

Some people notice an improvement in pain or anxiety within the first week, but it can take up to several weeks of regular use at an adequate dose to see the full benefit.
