Remethan 50mg Tablet contains diclofenac sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) widely used to relieve pain, swelling, and stiffness associated with chronic joint and musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, as well as acute flares of gout and general musculoskeletal pain. The enteric-coated tablet is designed to reduce direct irritation to the stomach lining as it passes through the digestive tract.

Remethan 50mg Tablet is a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia. Because NSAIDs like diclofenac carry recognised risks to the stomach, kidneys, and cardiovascular system with longer-term use, a doctor’s assessment is required through DoctorOnCall before this medicine is prescribed, and ongoing use for chronic conditions such as arthritis should be reviewed periodically to confirm it remains the safest and most effective option.

Diclofenac works by inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which reduces the body’s production of prostaglandins — chemical messengers responsible for triggering inflammation, pain signalling, and fever — thereby easing joint swelling, stiffness, and pain in chronic inflammatory conditions.

Swallow Remethan 50mg Tablet whole with a full glass of water, preferably with or after food to reduce the chance of stomach upset, and do not crush, chew, or break the tablet, as this can affect the enteric coating designed to protect the stomach.

• Active or history of peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding
• Severe heart failure
• Severe kidney or liver impairment

• Third trimester of pregnancy
• Recent coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery

• Other NSAIDs or aspirin taken together increase the risk of stomach irritation and bleeding
• Blood thinners such as warfarin may have an increased bleeding risk when combined with diclofenac
• ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, and diuretics may be less effective and place extra strain on the kidneys when combined with diclofenac
• Lithium and methotrexate levels in the blood may rise, increasing the risk of toxicity
• Corticosteroids taken together further increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects
