Overview

Smith & Nephew Opsite Post Op Waterproof Dressing (9.5cmx8.5cm) contains Polyurethane film and is presented as a healthcare product. It is supplied in a pack size of 3s.

It is classified as an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine, so no prescription is needed to order it. Under Malaysian rules for medicine information, this page carries product, safety and handling information only.

You can consult a doctor or pharmacist online on DoctorOnCall about this product before or after you order. Every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is delivered. Always read the label and the leaflet supplied with the pack.

Directions for Use

Clean the wound area as directed and make sure the surrounding skin is completely dry, since moisture reduces how well the film adheres. Peel away the release liner without touching the absorbent pad, centre the pad over the wound, and press the surrounding film down smoothly and evenly without stretching it, working outward from the middle to avoid wrinkles. Change the dressing according to your doctor’s or pharmacist’s advice, using one fresh sterile dressing from the pack each time, and remove gently by lifting an edge and peeling slowly.

Dosage

  • Not applicable — this is not a medicine.

Shelf Life

Use before the expiry date printed on the pack. Each of the 3 dressings remains sterile only while its individual pouch is sealed and undamaged; do not use a dressing whose pouch has been opened, torn, or exposed to moisture.

Storage Instructions

Store the pack in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat or humidity. Keep each unused dressing in its sealed individual pouch until you are ready to apply it.

Side Effects

  • Common: Mild, temporary redness or a faint outline mark where the adhesive border was in contact with the skin.
  • Uncommon: Itching, irritation, or blistering under the adhesive, particularly if the dressing was stretched on or worn longer than advised.

Contraindications

  • Do not use on individuals with a known allergy or sensitivity to acrylic adhesives or polyurethane film.
  • Avoid applying over an actively bleeding or clearly infected wound without first seeking medical advice.
  • Take extra care on thin or fragile skin, such as in elderly individuals or those on long-term steroid treatment, where the adhesive may cause skin damage on removal.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Not applicable — this is not a medicine.

Quick Tips

  • Make sure the skin is fully dry before application so the film adheres properly.
  • Smooth the dressing on without stretching it to reduce the risk of skin irritation.
  • The outer film is water-resistant, but avoid prolonged soaking or scrubbing directly over the dressing.
  • Use one fresh dressing from the pack of 3 at each change, following your doctor’s or pharmacist’s schedule.
  • Remove slowly, lifting from one edge, rather than pulling quickly.
  • Keep unused dressings in their sealed pouches until needed.

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Polyurethane film
  • Acrylic adhesive
  • Absorbent wound pad composed of non-woven polyester with a hydrocellular structure

Relevant Information

Precautions: Follow the dressing-change schedule advised by your doctor or pharmacist rather than leaving a single dressing in place indefinitely. Anyone with known adhesive sensitivities should check the skin around the dressing regularly.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical advice if the wound becomes more painful, red, swollen, or starts discharging fluid or pus, if the dressing repeatedly fails to stay sealed, or if a skin reaction develops that does not settle after removal.
