Smith & Nephew Syncera Electofix Bandage (10cmx10m) is a self-adhesive, elastic retention bandage supplied as a single roll measuring 10cm wide by 10 metres long when unrolled. It is made from a soft, breathable, latex-free non-woven fabric coated with a cohesive layer that sticks firmly to itself but not to skin or hair, so no pins, clips, or tape are needed to keep it in place.

This is a non-medicine retention bandage rather than a medicated product. Its high elasticity allows it to stretch and move with the body, and its cohesive rather than adhesive surface means it does not stick to skin or pull on body hair when unwound.

The bandage’s elastic non-woven fibres stretch and recoil, so once wrapped around a limb with moderate tension, it exerts gentle, even compression. The outer surface is treated to be cohesive rather than adhesive — it only bonds to itself when overlapping layers are pressed together, which keeps the roll wrapped in place without sticking to the skin underneath or pulling on body hair when removed.

Apply a suitable primary dressing to the wound first if one is needed. Hold the end of the Electofix roll against the limb and wrap it around in overlapping turns, each layer covering about half of the previous one, applying even but not excessive tension as you go. Press the final few centimetres firmly onto the layer beneath to seal the end, then tear the bandage by hand once the desired length has been used — no scissors, pins, or tape are required. Check that fingers or toes distal to the bandage remain warm, pink, and can move freely; unwrap and reapply more loosely if they become cold, numb, or discoloured.

Use before the expiry date printed on the packaging. As long as the roll’s individual wrapper remains sealed and undamaged, the adhesive and elastic properties should remain effective; discard the roll if the packaging has been opened for an extended period, the fabric feels dry or brittle, or the cohesive layer no longer sticks to itself.

Store the unopened roll in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat or humidity, which can affect the adhesive layer. Once opened, reseal or use the remainder promptly, and keep it away from dust and contamination between applications.

• Common: Mild, temporary skin marking or warmth under the bandage from normal compression, which usually resolves after removal.
• Uncommon: Skin irritation, redness, or discomfort if the bandage is wrapped too tightly or left on for a prolonged period.

• Do not wrap tightly enough to restrict blood flow, particularly over swollen limbs, in young children, or in people with diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or reduced sensation.
• Avoid use directly over an unhealed, actively bleeding, or infected wound without a suitable primary dressing and medical advice.
• Use with caution on individuals with very fragile or thin skin, where even light compression may cause discomfort.

• Overlap each turn by about half the bandage width for even coverage.

• Recheck circulation in fingers or toes below the bandage after applying and periodically afterwards.
• Remove and rewrap more loosely if you notice numbness, tingling, coldness, or swelling below the bandage.
• Keep the roll’s wrapper sealed until use to preserve its cohesive properties.

Precautions: Reassess the tightness of the wrap periodically, especially in the first few hours after application, as swelling can change how snug the bandage feels. Do not rely on this bandage alone in place of medical treatment or professional wound care.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical advice if the limb below the bandage becomes persistently numb, painful, cold, or discoloured, if the skin underneath shows signs of infection such as increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge, or if joint pain or swelling does not improve with rest.
