Stugeron 25mg Tablet

Stugeron 25mg Tablet contains cinnarizine, an antihistamine with mild calcium-channel blocking properties that is widely used in Malaysia to prevent and relieve motion sickness (travel sickness) and to help manage vertigo and dizziness linked to inner ear (vestibular) disorders such as labyrinthitis and Meniere’s disease. It works on both the nausea and the sense of imbalance that these conditions can cause.

Available over the counter, Stugeron is a long-standing, well-known option for travellers who experience nausea, vomiting or dizziness during car, sea, or air travel, as well as for adults dealing with recurrent dizziness or spinning sensations from vestibular causes. It is generally well tolerated, though like other antihistamines it can cause drowsiness in some people.

Cinnarizine works mainly by blocking histamine (H1) receptors and by reducing the excitability of the vestibular system in the inner ear, which is responsible for sensing balance and movement. It also has a mild calcium-channel blocking effect that may support blood flow to the inner ear and brain. Together, these actions reduce the nausea, vomiting and dizziness triggered by motion or by vestibular disorders.

Take this tablet by mouth with a glass of water, preferably after food to reduce the chance of stomach upset. For motion sickness, take the first dose about 30 minutes to 2 hours before travel begins, and repeat as advised on the label for longer journeys. For vertigo or dizziness, follow the dosing schedule advised by a doctor or pharmacist.

The usual adult dose for motion sickness is 25mg (one tablet) taken 30 minutes to 2 hours before travelling, with a further 25mg every 8 hours during the journey if needed. For vertigo and dizziness of vestibular origin, the typical dose is 25mg three times a day, adjusted as advised by a doctor; children and elderly patients may need a lower dose.

When stored correctly and unopened, this tablet is generally stable until the expiry date printed on the blister strip and outer carton. Always check this date before use and do not take the tablet after it has expired.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, keeping tablets in their original blister packaging until needed. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Cinnarizine is one of the most widely used medicines for both motion sickness and vestibular dizziness in Malaysia, valued for its dual action on nausea and balance. Long-term or high-dose use, especially in older adults, has been associated with movement-related side effects such as tremor, so it is generally used for the shortest effective period, and anyone with persistent or worsening dizziness, vertigo, or hearing changes should see a doctor for proper evaluation rather than relying on ongoing self-treatment.
