Sunward Allersin-F 4mg Tablet

Sunward Allersin-F 4mg Tablet contains chlorpheniramine maleate, a first-generation antihistamine widely used to relieve the symptoms of allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itchy skin conditions including hives (urticaria) and insect bite reactions. It is also commonly used to ease the allergy-related symptoms that accompany the common cold, such as a runny or blocked nose and sneezing.

Available over the counter in Malaysia, this tablet is a well-established, affordable option for short-term relief of allergic symptoms. Because it is a sedating (first-generation) antihistamine, it is often taken with awareness that daytime alertness may be reduced, and some people prefer to take it in the evening or at night.

Chlorpheniramine maleate works by blocking histamine (H1) receptors throughout the body, preventing histamine — a chemical released during an allergic reaction — from causing typical allergy symptoms such as itching, sneezing, swelling and excess mucus production. As a first-generation antihistamine, it also crosses into the brain, which accounts for its drowsy, sedating effect in addition to its allergy-relieving action.

Take this tablet by mouth, generally with a glass of water, and it may be taken with or without food. Follow the dose and frequency stated on the product label or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist, and avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you, since it commonly causes drowsiness.

The usual adult dose is one 4mg tablet every 4 to 6 hours as needed for allergy symptoms, up to the maximum stated on the product label, generally not exceeding 24mg in 24 hours. Children and elderly patients may need a lower dose or closer guidance from a pharmacist or doctor, and this product is generally not recommended for very young children without medical advice.

When stored correctly and unopened, this tablet typically remains stable until the expiry date printed on the blister strip and outer packaging. Always check this date before use and do not take the tablet beyond its stated expiry.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, and keep the tablets in their original blister packaging until ready to use. Keep this medicine out of the reach and sight of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to chlorpheniramine or other antihistamines
• Narrow-angle glaucoma
• Severe asthma attack or significant breathing difficulty
• Urinary retention or bladder outflow obstruction, such as an enlarged prostate
• Newborn or premature infants
• Use together with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medicines

• Avoid alcohol, which can significantly increase drowsiness
• Avoid combining with other sedating medicines such as sleeping tablets, other antihistamines, or certain pain relievers, as this increases sedation
• May interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and increase anticholinergic side effects
• Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all other medicines you are taking, especially other cold and flu preparations that may already contain an antihistamine

• Take with a full glass of water, with or without food
• Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you
• Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine
• Do not take together with other products that already contain an antihistamine, to avoid excess dosing
• Speak to a pharmacist before use if you have glaucoma, asthma, or prostate problems

Chlorpheniramine is one of the most established and widely available antihistamines and works well for short-term relief of allergic symptoms, though newer, less-sedating antihistamines may be preferred for daytime use. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, the elderly, and those with chronic conditions such as glaucoma, asthma, or prostate enlargement should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use, and anyone with allergy symptoms that persist beyond a few days, or that are severe, should seek medical advice.
