Overview

Sunward Nalol 40mg Tablet contains Propranolol Hydrochloride 40mg and is available as a tablet. It is classified as a prescription medicine and may only be obtained with a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner.

Only product, safety and handling information is published here. Anything beyond that is explained to you directly by your doctor or pharmacist as part of your consultation.

DoctorOnCall is a licensed online pharmacy. Orders for Sunward Nalol 40mg Tablet are processed only after a doctor has assessed your suitability and issued a prescription, and every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is sent out.

Directions for Use

Take propranolol tablets at the same times each day, with or without food, as advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, especially if you have heart disease, as this can cause a rebound increase in heart rate and blood pressure or worsen angina.

Dosage

The dose of propranolol depends on the condition being treated, and your doctor will individualise it, often starting at a lower dose and adjusting gradually based on your blood pressure, heart rate, and response to treatment. It is usually taken two to three times a day.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Nausea or stomach upset
  • Sleep disturbances or vivid dreams
  • Slow heart rate
  • Shortness of breath (especially in people with asthma)

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to propranolol or other beta-blockers
  • Severe asthma or a history of bronchospasm
  • Severe bradycardia, heart block, or decompensated heart failure
  • Untreated phaeochromocytoma
  • Severe peripheral arterial circulatory disturbances

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Calcium channel blockers such as verapamil or diltiazem – combined use can cause a dangerously slow heart rate
  • Insulin and oral diabetes medicines – propranolol can mask the warning signs of low blood sugar
  • NSAIDs – may reduce the blood-pressure-lowering effect of propranolol
  • Inform your doctor of all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter cold remedies

Quick Tips

  • Never stop this medicine abruptly – your doctor will taper the dose if it needs to be discontinued
  • Check your pulse periodically and tell your doctor if it becomes unusually slow
  • If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar carefully as symptoms of hypoglycaemia may be masked
  • Avoid sudden standing if you feel dizzy, as this medicine can lower blood pressure
