Overview

Pantor 40mg Tablet contains pantoprazole 40mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach and duodenal ulcers, and conditions of excess stomach acid production, by reducing the amount of acid the stomach makes.

Pantoprazole works by blocking the final step of acid production in the stomach lining, allowing the oesophagus or ulcer to heal and relieving symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation.

How it Works

Pantoprazole selectively and irreversibly binds to the hydrogen-potassium ATPase (“proton pump”) in the acid-secreting cells of the stomach lining, substantially reducing gastric acid output for an extended period regardless of what stimulated acid release.

Directions for Use

Take Pantor 40mg Tablet about one hour before a meal, typically before breakfast, swallowing the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablet, as it has an enteric coating that protects the medicine from stomach acid until it reaches the small intestine.

Dosage

The usual dose of Pantor 40mg Tablet is 40mg once daily, with the exact dose and duration depending on the condition being treated – typically 4-8 weeks for GERD or ulcer healing, sometimes longer for maintenance. Your doctor will individualise the dose and duration for you.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pantor 40mg Tablet used for?

Pantor 40mg Tablet is used to treat acid reflux (GERD), stomach and duodenal ulcers, and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid.

How long does it take for symptoms to improve?

Many people feel relief within a few days, but full healing of an inflamed oesophagus or ulcer can take 4-8 weeks of regular use.

Can I take this medicine long-term?

Long-term use should only be under your doctor’s supervision, as prolonged acid suppression can affect magnesium and vitamin B12 levels and increase certain infection risks.

Why must I take it before a meal?

Pantoprazole works best when the acid pumps in the stomach are most active, which happens after eating – taking it before a meal ensures the medicine is ready to act at the right time.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Pantor 40mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue as normal. Do not double the dose.
