Overview

Controloc 20mg Tablet contains pantoprazole 20mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat conditions caused by excess stomach acid, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive oesophagitis, and stomach or duodenal ulcers, and as part of combination therapy to eradicate H. pylori infection.

Pantoprazole works by switching off the final step of acid production in the stomach lining, substantially reducing the amount of acid released and allowing the irritated lining of the oesophagus or stomach to heal.

How it Works

Pantoprazole irreversibly binds to and inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) in the acid-secreting parietal cells of the stomach lining, blocking the final common pathway of gastric acid secretion regardless of what triggered it.

Directions for Use

Take Controloc 20mg Tablet about 30-60 minutes before your first meal of the day, swallowing the tablet whole with water without chewing or crushing it. Continue taking it for the full duration prescribed by your doctor, even if your symptoms improve quickly.

Dosage

The usual dose of Controloc 20mg Tablet is one tablet once daily, generally taken before breakfast, with the duration of treatment depending on your specific condition – typically 4-8 weeks for GERD or ulcer healing, though your doctor will determine the right duration and may extend it for maintenance therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Controloc 20mg Tablet used for?

Controloc 20mg Tablet is used to reduce excess stomach acid in conditions such as acid reflux, oesophagitis, and stomach or duodenal ulcers, and is sometimes combined with antibiotics to treat H. pylori infection. Your doctor will confirm the specific reason it has been prescribed for you.

How quickly will I feel relief from reflux symptoms?

Many people notice improvement in symptoms such as heartburn within a few days, though it can take 2-4 weeks of regular use for the oesophagus or stomach lining to fully heal.

Can I take this medicine long-term?

Pantoprazole can be used long-term when your doctor determines it is necessary, but long-term use is periodically reviewed, as it may be associated with reduced absorption of certain nutrients such as vitamin B12 and magnesium.

Should I take this medicine with or without food?

It works best when taken before a meal, ideally 30-60 minutes before breakfast, so the medicine is active in your system as your stomach starts producing acid for digestion.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Controloc 20mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue as normal. Do not double the dose.
