Overview

Accord Ezetimibe 10mg Tablet contains ezetimibe 10mg, a cholesterol absorption inhibitor used to lower high cholesterol levels, either on its own or together with a statin, as part of the management of cardiovascular risk.

Ezetimibe works in the intestine to reduce the absorption of cholesterol from food and bile, which lowers the amount of cholesterol delivered to the liver and, in turn, lowers LDL (“bad”) cholesterol in the blood.

How it Works

Ezetimibe selectively blocks the NPC1L1 transporter protein at the brush border of the small intestine, reducing the uptake of dietary and biliary cholesterol. This lowers the cholesterol supply to the liver, prompting the liver to increase LDL receptor expression and clear more LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.

Directions for Use

Take Accord Ezetimibe 10mg Tablet once daily, at any time of day, with or without food. If you are also taking a bile acid sequestrant (such as cholestyramine), take this medicine either 2 hours before or 4 hours after it, as it can reduce ezetimibe’s absorption.

Dosage

The usual dose of Accord Ezetimibe 10mg Tablet is 10mg once daily, taken alone or together with a statin as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will determine whether combination therapy is needed based on your cholesterol levels and cardiovascular risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Accord Ezetimibe 10mg Tablet used for?

Accord Ezetimibe 10mg Tablet is used to lower high cholesterol levels, either alone or together with a statin, to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems.

How is ezetimibe different from a statin?

Ezetimibe lowers cholesterol by reducing its absorption in the intestine, while statins work in the liver to reduce cholesterol production. Your doctor may combine both for a stronger effect.

Do I still need to follow a healthy diet while taking this medicine?

Yes. This medicine works best alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet, regular exercise, and management of other risk factors such as smoking and weight.

Can I take this medicine with a statin?

Yes, ezetimibe is commonly prescribed together with a statin for greater cholesterol lowering. Your doctor will monitor you for muscle-related side effects, which are more common with combination use.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Accord Ezetimibe 10mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue as normal. Do not double the dose.
