Overview

Atozet 10/40mg Tablet contains ezetimibe 10mg combined with atorvastatin 40mg, a fixed-dose combination used to lower high LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in people who need more cholesterol reduction than a statin alone can achieve.

Ezetimibe blocks the absorption of cholesterol from the intestine, while atorvastatin reduces the liver’s own production of cholesterol. These two complementary actions together lower LDL cholesterol more than either medicine alone.

How it Works

Ezetimibe selectively blocks the NPC1L1 cholesterol transporter in the small intestine, reducing absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol. Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme controlling cholesterol production in the liver, which increases the liver’s uptake of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.

Directions for Use

Take Atozet 10/40mg Tablet once daily, at any time of day, with or without food, swallowing the tablet whole with water. Avoid grapefruit juice, as it can increase atorvastatin levels in the blood. Continue taking it even if you feel well, as high cholesterol usually causes no symptoms.

Dosage

The usual dose of Atozet 10/40mg Tablet is one tablet once daily. Your doctor will determine the appropriate strength for you based on your LDL cholesterol target and how you respond to treatment, and may adjust it after checking your cholesterol levels.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Atozet 10/40mg Tablet used for?

Atozet 10/40mg Tablet is a combination medicine used to lower high LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in people whose cholesterol is not adequately controlled by a statin alone, reducing the long-term risk of heart attack and stroke.

Why does this tablet contain two different cholesterol medicines?

Ezetimibe reduces cholesterol absorbed from food in the gut, while atorvastatin reduces the cholesterol your liver produces. Combining both mechanisms usually lowers LDL cholesterol more than either medicine used alone.

Can I drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine?

It is best to avoid grapefruit juice, as it can raise atorvastatin levels in your blood and increase the risk of muscle-related side effects.

Do I need blood tests while taking this medicine?

Yes, your doctor will typically check your cholesterol levels and liver function periodically to confirm the medicine is working and being tolerated well.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Atozet 10/40mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue as normal. Do not double the dose.
