Overview

Alcon Simbrinza 10mg/ml Eye Drop is a combination eye drop containing brinzolamide 10mg/ml, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and brimonidine, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, used together to lower elevated intraocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Brinzolamide reduces the production of aqueous humour by blocking an enzyme involved in its formation, while brimonidine both reduces production and increases outflow of this fluid; together they provide a greater pressure-lowering effect than either ingredient used alone.

How it Works

Brinzolamide inhibits carbonic anhydrase II in the ciliary body, reducing bicarbonate and fluid secretion into the eye, while brimonidine stimulates alpha-2 receptors to decrease aqueous humour formation and enhance uveoscleral outflow. The combined dual mechanism lowers intraocular pressure more effectively than a single-agent drop.

Directions for Use

Shake Alcon Simbrinza 10mg/ml Eye Drop well before use. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instil one drop without letting the tip touch your eye. Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for about a minute after instillation, and wait at least 5 minutes before using any other eye drop.

Dosage

The usual dose of Alcon Simbrinza 10mg/ml Eye Drop is one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily, as instructed by your eye doctor, evenly spaced through the day for consistent pressure control.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Alcon Simbrinza 10mg/ml Eye Drop used for?

Alcon Simbrinza 10mg/ml Eye Drop is a combination eye drop used to lower elevated eye pressure in glaucoma or ocular hypertension when a single medicine does not provide enough control.

Why do I need to shake the bottle before using this eye drop?

This eye drop is a suspension, meaning the active ingredients can settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shaking it well before each use ensures you get an even, effective dose.

Why does this eye drop leave a bitter taste in my mouth?

A small amount of the eye drop can drain through your tear duct into the back of your throat, where the brinzolamide component can produce a bitter or metallic taste. This is a known, usually harmless effect.

Can I drive right after using this eye drop?

Your vision may be temporarily blurred immediately after instillation, so you should wait until your vision clears before driving or operating machinery.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Alcon Simbrinza 10mg/ml Eye Drop?

Use the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not use a double dose.
