Overview

Alphagan P 0.1% Eye Drop contains brimonidine tartrate 0.1%, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist eye drop used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) in open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. This formulation uses a preservative-free system, which may be gentler on the eye surface for long-term use.

Brimonidine lowers eye pressure through two mechanisms: it reduces the production of aqueous humour (the fluid inside the eye) and increases its drainage through an alternative outflow pathway, together lowering pressure within the eye.

How it Works

Brimonidine stimulates alpha-2 adrenergic receptors in the ciliary body, which decreases aqueous humour production, and it also enhances uveoscleral outflow of this fluid. Both effects reduce the volume of fluid inside the eye, lowering intraocular pressure and helping to protect the optic nerve from pressure-related damage.

Directions for Use

Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instil one drop of {title_en} without letting the tip touch your eye or eyelid. Gently press on the inner corner of the eye for about a minute after instillation to reduce systemic absorption, and wait at least 5 minutes before using any other eye drop.

Dosage

The usual dose of Alphagan P 0.1% Eye Drop is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice or three times daily, roughly 8-12 hours apart, as instructed by your eye doctor. Do not change the frequency without medical advice, as consistent use is important for controlling eye pressure.
