Overview

Allergan Ganfort Eye Drop is a prescription-only medicine (POM) presented as eye drops, with Bimatoprost 0.03% and Timolol 0.5% (as timolol maleate) as its active ingredient content.

This page is limited to product, safety and handling information, in line with Malaysian rules on prescription medicine information for the public. Your prescriber or pharmacist is the right source for anything beyond that, together with the leaflet inside the pack.

Through DoctorOnCall, this product is supplied after an online consultation with a licensed doctor and a valid prescription, and it is checked by a registered pharmacist before dispensing. Take it exactly as prescribed, and speak to your doctor before stopping, changing the dose, or starting any other medicine alongside it.

Directions for Use

Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instil one drop of {title_en} without letting the tip touch your eye. Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for about a minute after use to reduce systemic absorption of the timolol component, and wait at least 5 minutes before using any other eye drop.

Dosage

The usual dose of Allergan Ganfort Eye Drop is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily, usually in the morning or evening as instructed by your eye doctor. Do not use it more than once daily, as more frequent use may reduce its pressure-lowering effect.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

Timolol

  • Eye irritation or discomfort
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry eyes
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Slowed heartbeat (in some cases)

Bimatoprost

  • Eye redness
  • Itchy or dry eyes
  • Darkening of the eyelid skin
  • Increased brown pigmentation of the iris
  • Blurred vision
  • Eyelash growth changes
  • Sensation of something in the eye

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to bimatoprost, timolol, or any ingredient in this product
  • Reactive airway disease, including asthma or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Severe bradycardia (slow heart rate), heart block greater than first-degree, or decompensated heart failure
  • Sick sinus syndrome without a pacemaker

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Oral beta-blockers may have an additive effect with the timolol component, increasing the risk of slow heart rate
  • Oral calcium channel blockers (e.g. verapamil) combined with this eye drop may increase the risk of bradycardia or low blood pressure
  • Other topical eye pressure-lowering drops used together should be spaced at least 5 minutes apart
  • Inform your doctor of all medicines you are taking, including oral heart and blood pressure medicines

Quick Tips

  • Use only once daily; using it more often will not improve control and may reduce its effect
  • Press on the inner corner of your eye after each drop to limit absorption into the bloodstream
  • Tell your doctor if you notice a slower heart rate, dizziness, or breathing difficulty
  • You may notice gradual lengthening or darkening of your eyelashes with continued use; this is a known effect and not usually a cause for concern

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Bimatoprost 0.03%
