Overview

Antiphlamine S Lotion is a topical liquid liniment manufactured by Yuhan Corporation, supplied in a 100ml bottle for external application to the skin. It is formulated as a combination of five active ingredients — Methyl Salicylate, L-Menthol, Camphor, Eucalyptus Oil, and Turpentine Oil — each a well-established topical counter-irritant or aromatic compound commonly found in OTC rub-on liniments sold across Malaysia and the wider region.

The product is classified as an OTC (Over-the-Counter) topical preparation, meaning it is available for purchase at pharmacies and online pharmacies in Malaysia without needing a doctor’s prescription. Its liquid lotion format is designed for direct application with the fingers or a cotton applicator, and the formulation produces a characteristic cooling-then-warming sensation on the skin that is typical of combination salicylate-menthol-camphor liniments.

Antiphlamine S Lotion is sold in Malaysia in a standard 100ml bottle size. As with all topical liniments in this product class, it is intended for external use on intact skin only and should be kept out of reach of children. Customers should check the manufacturing and expiry dates printed on the packaging before use.

Directions for Use

  • Shake the bottle gently before use, if needed.
  • Apply a small amount of Antiphlamine S Lotion directly onto the affected area of intact skin.
  • Gently massage the lotion into the skin until it is absorbed.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water immediately after application, avoiding contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, and other mucous membranes.
  • Do not apply to broken, irritated, or recently shaved skin, and do not cover the application site with an airtight bandage or apply a heating pad over it.

Dosage

For adults and children above 12 years old, apply a small amount of Antiphlamine S Lotion to the affected area up to 3 to 4 times a day, or as needed. Avoid applying more than the amount required to lightly cover the affected area, and do not use on the same area more frequently than recommended, since excessive or prolonged application increases the amount of salicylate absorbed through the skin. Use in children aged 2 to 12 years should only be done under the guidance of a doctor or pharmacist, and the product is not recommended for infants or children under 2 years old.

Shelf Life

Antiphlamine S Lotion should be used before the expiry date printed on the bottle and outer packaging. Once opened, use the product within the period stated on the packaging and discard it if its colour, odour, or consistency changes noticeably.

Storage Instructions

Store Antiphlamine S Lotion at room temperature, below 30°C, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and naked flames, as the product contains flammable volatile oils. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use, and store it out of the reach and sight of children and pets.

Side Effects

  • Common: mild skin irritation, stinging, or a burning sensation at the site of application.
  • Common: temporary redness or warmth of the skin.
  • Common: a strong, lingering menthol or camphor-like odour on the skin or clothing.
  • Serious: allergic contact dermatitis, presenting as persistent rash, blistering, swelling, or intense itching, which requires discontinuing use and seeking medical attention.
  • Serious: signs of salicylate absorption such as ringing in the ears (tinnitus), nausea, or dizziness after extensive or prolonged use over large areas of skin, which requires urgent medical care.

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity or allergy to Methyl Salicylate, aspirin, other salicylates, or any of the other listed ingredients.
  • Application to broken, cut, infected, or recently shaved skin, or to open wounds.
  • Use on the eyes, inside the nose or mouth, or on other mucous membranes.
  • Use in infants and children under 2 years old.
  • Use together with a heating pad, hot water bottle, or tight occlusive bandage over the application site.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Patients taking oral anticoagulant medicines such as warfarin should use caution, as Methyl Salicylate can be absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and may increase the anticoagulant effect, raising the risk of bleeding with extensive or prolonged application.
  • Avoid using Antiphlamine S Lotion at the same time as other topical or oral products containing salicylates (such as aspirin or other methyl salicylate-based liniments), as this can increase the total amount of salicylate absorbed and raise the risk of salicylate toxicity.
  • No clinically significant food interactions have been identified for this topical product, as it is not taken orally.

Quick Tips

  • Always perform a small patch test on a limited area of skin before first use, and discontinue if irritation develops.
  • Wash your hands immediately after applying the lotion to avoid accidentally transferring it to your eyes or face.
  • Do not bandage, wrap, or apply a heat source over the area where the lotion has been applied.
  • Store the bottle upright with the cap tightly closed to prevent the volatile oils from evaporating or spilling.
  • Keep the lotion away from open flames or heat sources, as it contains flammable essential oils.
  • Check the expiry date on the packaging before each use and dispose of the product once expired.

Relevant Information

Precautions: Antiphlamine S Lotion is intended for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, nose, and other mucous membranes, and do not apply to broken or irritated skin. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, and individuals with known sensitivity to salicylates or aspirin, should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use. Discontinue use immediately if a rash, blistering, or severe irritation develops.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical advice if skin irritation, redness, or itching persists or worsens after a few days of use, if signs of an allergic reaction (such as widespread rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing) appear, or if symptoms of salicylate absorption such as ringing in the ears, nausea, or dizziness occur after applying the lotion.
