Overview

Apo-Terazosin 2mg Tablet contains terazosin 2mg, an alpha-1 adrenergic blocker used to treat the urinary symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, an enlarged prostate) and to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

Terazosin works by blocking alpha-1 receptors in the smooth muscle of the prostate, bladder neck, and blood vessel walls. This relaxes the muscle around the bladder outlet, easing urine flow in men with an enlarged prostate, and relaxes blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure.

How it Works

Terazosin selectively blocks alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, preventing noradrenaline from causing smooth muscle contraction. This relaxes the prostate and bladder neck muscle, reducing resistance to urine flow, and relaxes peripheral blood vessels, lowering blood pressure.

Directions for Use

Take Apo-Terazosin 2mg Tablet at bedtime, especially for the first dose and after any dose increase, to reduce the risk of dizziness or fainting from a sudden drop in blood pressure on standing. Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food, and try to take it at the same time each day.

Dosage

Apo-Terazosin 2mg Tablet is usually started at a low dose (commonly 1mg) taken at bedtime, which your doctor will gradually increase based on your response and blood pressure or urinary symptoms, typically up to a maintenance dose. The exact dose and titration schedule is individualised, so follow your doctor’s instructions closely.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Apo-Terazosin 2mg Tablet used for?

Apo-Terazosin 2mg Tablet is used to relieve urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate (BPH), such as difficulty starting urination or a weak stream, and to treat high blood pressure.

Why is the first dose taken at bedtime?

The first dose (and any dose increase) can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and dizziness or fainting, so taking it at bedtime reduces the risk of falls or injury.

How long does it take to notice an improvement in urinary symptoms?

Some men notice improved urine flow within days to a couple of weeks, though your doctor may continue adjusting the dose over several weeks for the best effect.

Can I take this medicine together with erectile dysfunction medicines?

Combining terazosin with PDE5 inhibitors such as sildenafil can cause a significant drop in blood pressure. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take so they can advise on safe timing or spacing.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Apo-Terazosin 2mg Tablet?

If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it is close to your next dose, in which case skip it. Do not double the dose, and if you have missed several doses, your doctor may advise restarting at a lower dose.
