Overview

Ralsin 2mg Tablet contains terazosin 2mg, an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland) and to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

Terazosin works by blocking alpha-1 receptors found in the smooth muscle of the prostate, bladder neck, and blood vessel walls. In the prostate and bladder neck, this relaxes the muscle and improves urine flow; in blood vessels, this same relaxation widens the vessels and lowers blood pressure.

How it Works

Terazosin selectively blocks alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, which are responsible for keeping smooth muscle in the prostate, bladder neck, and blood vessel walls contracted. By blocking these receptors, terazosin relaxes this smooth muscle, easing the obstruction to urine flow in BPH and widening blood vessels to lower blood pressure.

Directions for Use

Take Ralsin 2mg Tablet at bedtime, especially your first dose and after any dose increase, to reduce the risk of dizziness or fainting on standing. It can be taken with or without food. Rise slowly from lying or sitting positions, particularly when you first start or restart this medicine after a break.

Dosage

Ralsin 2mg Tablet is usually started at a low dose (1mg) at bedtime to reduce the risk of first-dose dizziness, then gradually increased by your doctor over several days to weeks to a usual maintenance dose, which may be this strength or another as needed. Never adjust your own dose – titration must be guided by your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ralsin 2mg Tablet used for?

Ralsin 2mg Tablet contains terazosin, used to relieve urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate (BPH) and/or to treat high blood pressure, depending on why your doctor prescribed it.

Why is my first dose taken at bedtime?

Terazosin can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure with the first dose or after a dose increase, leading to dizziness or fainting – taking it at bedtime reduces the risk of this happening while you are up and about.

Can I take this medicine if I am also using sildenafil or tadalafil?

Combining terazosin with PDE5 inhibitors can cause an additive drop in blood pressure. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take so they can advise on safe timing or dosing.

How long does it take to see improvement in urinary symptoms?

Some improvement may be noticed within a few days to weeks, but your doctor may need to gradually increase your dose over several weeks to reach the most effective and tolerable level.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Ralsin 2mg Tablet?

If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it is close to your next dose – in that case, skip it and continue as normal. Do not double the dose, and if you have missed several days, contact your doctor before restarting, as your dose may need to be reduced again.
