Overview

Candid-V Gel is supplied as a gel, with Clotrimazole. It is supplied in a pack size of 30g.

No prescription is required for this product, as it is a non-prescription medicine. This page is limited to product, safety and handling information.

If you would like guidance before buying, you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist through an online consultation on DoctorOnCall. Orders are dispensed by a registered pharmacist and delivered to your address.

Directions for Use

Wash and dry the external genital area gently before use. Using the applicator provided, insert the recommended amount of gel into the vagina, usually at night before sleeping, and also apply a thin layer of gel to the external vulval area if itching or irritation is present there. Wash your hands before and after application, and continue treatment for the full course recommended on the packaging even if symptoms improve early.

Dosage

The usual dose is one applicator of gel inserted into the vagina once daily for the number of days specified on the product packaging, typically continued for 3 to 6 days depending on the product strength, or as advised by a pharmacist. External application to the vulva can be used as needed to relieve itching, following the same course duration.

Shelf Life

Candid-V Gel should be used before the expiry date printed on the packaging or tube. Once opened, use within the timeframe stated on the packaging, and discard any unused gel after this period even if product remains in the tube.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of reach and sight of children at all times.

Side Effects

  • Mild skin irritation
  • Redness or itching at the application site
  • Burning or stinging sensation
  • Peeling or blistering of the skin
  • Unusual vaginal discharge (with vaginal formulations)

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or any other imidazole antifungal, or to any component of the gel
  • Should not be self-diagnosed if this is your first episode of vaginal symptoms, or if symptoms differ from a previously diagnosed pattern, without a pharmacist or doctor’s assessment
  • Not recommended for use during menstruation; treatment is generally best completed between periods
  • Caution advised during pregnancy — seek pharmacist or doctor advice before use, particularly regarding the applicator method in later pregnancy

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Vaginal clotrimazole preparations may weaken latex condoms and diaphragms, reducing their effectiveness as contraception or for prevention of sexually transmitted infections, for a period after use
  • Avoid using other vaginal products, such as douches or spermicides, at the same time without advice
  • No significant food interactions are expected with vaginal or topical use
  • Inform your pharmacist of any other vaginal or systemic antifungal treatments you are using

Quick Tips

  • Apply the gel at night before sleeping to allow it to remain in place for longer and reduce leakage
  • Complete the full recommended course even if itching and irritation improve after the first day or two
  • Wear loose, breathable cotton underwear during treatment and avoid tight synthetic fabrics
  • Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment, or use alternative contraception, as clotrimazole may weaken latex condoms
  • See a pharmacist or doctor if symptoms do not improve within 7 days, recur shortly after treatment, or if you experience unusual symptoms such as fever or pelvic pain

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Clotrimazole
  • Propylene glycol
  • Benzyl alcohol
  • Carbomer gel base (formulation may vary by manufacturer; refer to product packaging for the complete excipient list)
