Overview

Clearogout is an alkalinising effervescent granule supplied in single-dose sachets, listed on the market as Live Well Clearogout and manufactured by Pahang Pharmacy Sdn Bhd. Each 4g sachet contains sodium bicarbonate 1760mg, sodium citrate anhydrous 630mg, citric acid anhydrous 720mg, and tartaric acid 890mg. Together these ingredients form a sugar-free, effervescent salt blend that dissolves in water and fizzes as the acids and bicarbonate react. The product carries the Malaysian registration number MAL 20172747XC, which identifies it as a registered product.

This preparation is taken by dissolving the granules in water, so it is a drink rather than a tablet or capsule. It is notably a salt-based product: the sodium bicarbonate and sodium citrate mean that each sachet supplies a meaningful amount of sodium, which is one of the main safety considerations for people with high blood pressure, heart failure, or kidney disease. It is available through DoctorOnCall in pack sizes such as 30 sachets with additional free sachets, and is sold without a prescription.

Directions for Use

Empty the contents of one sachet into a glass of cold water and stir until the granules have completely dissolved and the fizzing has settled. Drink the solution straight away rather than storing it.

Do not swallow the dry granules. Follow the pack instructions or the advice of a pharmacist or doctor regarding the number of sachets in each glass.

Dosage

Dissolve 1 to 2 sachets (4g to 8g) in a glass of cold water per dose, as directed on the pack or by a pharmacist or doctor. Do not exceed the maximum number of sachets per day stated on the pack, because each sachet adds to your daily sodium intake. Not recommended for children under 12 years or for pregnant or breastfeeding women unless a doctor has advised otherwise.

Storage Instructions

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity, because moisture will trigger the effervescent reaction and spoil the granules. Keep sachets sealed until you are ready to use them.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Common: Bloating, belching, or wind, caused by the gas released when bicarbonate reacts in the stomach.
  • Common: Mild stomach upset or nausea.
  • Serious: Signs of too much alkali in the body, such as muscle twitching or cramps, confusion, or an irregular heartbeat, which need urgent medical attention.
  • Serious: Swelling of the ankles, rapid weight gain, or a marked rise in blood pressure, which can indicate sodium and fluid overload.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if you have severe kidney disease or a condition in which the blood is already too alkaline.
  • Do not use if you have been told to follow a strict low-sodium diet, or have heart failure or uncontrolled high blood pressure, unless a doctor agrees.
  • Not recommended for children under 12 years, or for pregnant or breastfeeding women, without medical advice.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Alkalinising products change the acidity of the urine and can alter how quickly certain medicines are cleared from the body, including aspirin and other salicylates, lithium, and some decongestants and heart-rhythm medicines, so tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you take.
  • Sodium bicarbonate can reduce the absorption of some medicines taken by mouth, such as certain antibiotics and iron supplements, so spacing them apart is usually advised.
  • The sodium content adds to the effect of diuretics, corticosteroids, and other medicines that affect fluid and salt balance, which is worth discussing with a doctor.
  • Food-interaction note: high-salt foods add to the sodium already supplied by each sachet.

Quick Tips

  • Always dissolve the granules in a full glass of water and let the fizzing finish before drinking.
  • Keep sachets sealed and dry, because even humid air can start the effervescent reaction.
  • Count the sachets you use each day so that you do not exceed the maximum on the pack.
  • Remember that every sachet contains sodium, so factor it in if you are watching your salt intake.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about this product if you take regular medicines, particularly lithium, aspirin, or heart medicines.
  • Check with a doctor before use if you have kidney, heart, or blood pressure conditions.

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Sodium Bicarbonate 1760mg per 4g sachet.
  • Sodium Citrate Anhydrous 630mg per 4g sachet.
  • Citric Acid Anhydrous 720mg per 4g sachet.
  • Tartaric Acid 890mg per 4g sachet; sugar-free effervescent granule, refer to the pack label for any additional excipients.

Relevant Information

Precautions: This product supplies a significant amount of sodium, so people with high blood pressure, heart failure, liver disease with fluid retention, or kidney disease should use it only under medical supervision. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for children under 12, unless a doctor advises otherwise. Long-term use should be reviewed by a doctor.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical advice if you develop muscle twitching, confusion, swelling, palpitations, or persistent stomach upset, or if you are unsure how many sachets are appropriate for you. A pharmacist can also check whether this product is suitable alongside your other medicines.
