Overview

Cravit 0.5% Eye Solution contains levofloxacin 0.5%, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic eye drop used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (“pink eye”) caused by susceptible bacteria. It is applied directly to the eye and is not used for viral or fungal eye infections.

Levofloxacin works by blocking bacterial enzymes needed for DNA replication and repair. Applying it directly onto the eye surface achieves a high local concentration in the eye tissues, allowing it to kill the causative bacteria effectively.

How it Works

Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes bacteria need to replicate and repair their DNA. When applied topically as an eye drop, it penetrates the surface tissues of the eye to reach concentrations that are bactericidal against a broad range of organisms commonly responsible for bacterial conjunctivitis.

Directions for Use

Wash your hands before use. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instil the prescribed number of drops of {title_en} without letting the dropper tip touch your eye, eyelid, or any other surface. Close your eyes gently for 1-2 minutes and apply gentle pressure to the inner corner of the eye to reduce drainage into the tear duct. Remove contact lenses before use and do not reinsert them until the infection has cleared, as advised by your doctor.

Dosage

The usual course of Cravit 0.5% Eye Solution is 1-2 drops instilled into the affected eye(s) several times a day, with more frequent dosing typically used in the first 1-2 days followed by a reduced frequency for the remainder of a roughly one-week course. Your doctor will confirm the exact dosing schedule and duration for your infection.
