Overview

Cravit 250mg Tablet contains levofloxacin 250mg, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including certain respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia and sinusitis), urinary tract infections, and some skin and soft tissue infections. It is only effective against bacterial infections, not viral ones such as the common cold or flu.

Levofloxacin works by blocking two bacterial enzymes needed for DNA replication and repair, which stops the bacteria from multiplying and eventually kills them.

How it Works

Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, two enzymes bacteria need to unwind, replicate, and repair their DNA. Without these enzymes functioning normally, bacterial DNA becomes damaged and the bacteria can no longer grow or divide, making levofloxacin bactericidal (directly killing the bacteria) against a broad range of organisms.

Directions for Use

Take Cravit 250mg Tablet with a full glass of water, with or without food, at about the same time each day. Avoid taking it at the same time as antacids, or supplements containing calcium, iron, zinc, or magnesium, as these can reduce absorption – space these products at least 2 hours apart from your dose. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medicine unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Dosage

The dose and duration of Cravit 250mg Tablet depend on the type and severity of the infection being treated, typically ranging from 250mg to 750mg once daily for 7-14 days. Your doctor will determine the correct dose, frequency, and length of treatment for your specific infection, and it is important to complete the full course even if you feel better before it ends.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Antacids, and calcium, iron, zinc, or magnesium supplements reduce levofloxacin absorption if taken together – separate dosing by at least 2 hours

  • Warfarin’s blood-thinning effect may be enhanced, requiring closer monitoring
  • Corticosteroids (e.g. prednisolone) increase the risk of tendon rupture, especially in older adults

Quick Tips

  • Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve early
  • Stay well hydrated throughout treatment
  • Use sunscreen and limit direct sun exposure due to increased skin sensitivity
  • Stop the medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you notice tendon pain or swelling

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cravit 250mg Tablet used for?

Cravit 250mg Tablet is used to treat bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and certain skin infections. Your doctor will confirm the specific infection it has been prescribed for.

Can I stop taking this medicine once I feel better?

No, you should complete the full course as prescribed, even if your symptoms improve. Stopping early can allow the infection to return and may contribute to antibiotic resistance.

Can I take this medicine with milk or calcium supplements?

It is best to avoid taking levofloxacin at the same time as milk, calcium, iron, or zinc supplements, or antacids, as these can reduce how well the medicine is absorbed. Space them at least 2 hours apart.

Why do I need to avoid too much sun while taking this medicine?

Levofloxacin can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, increasing the risk of sunburn. Use sunscreen and protective clothing, and limit direct sun exposure during treatment.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Cravit 250mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
