Overview

Daivobet Ointment is supplied as an ointment, with Betamethasone Dipropionate. It is supplied in a pack size of 30g.

No prescription is required for this product, as it is a non-prescription medicine. This page is limited to product, safety and handling information.

If you would like guidance before buying, you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist through an online consultation on DoctorOnCall. Orders are dispensed by a registered pharmacist and delivered to your address.

Directions for Use

Daivobet Ointment should be used exactly as prescribed by the doctor following an online consultation via DoctorOnCall. It is typically applied once daily as a thin layer to the affected skin areas, gently rubbed in, avoiding the face, groin, armpits, and broken or infected skin unless specifically directed. Hands should be washed after application unless the hands are the treated area, and treatment duration should not be extended beyond what the prescribing doctor advises.

Dosage

The dosing and treatment duration for Daivobet Ointment are individualised by the prescribing doctor based on the extent and severity of psoriasis, but total weekly use is generally capped, often around 100g per week for adults, and continuous use is usually limited to no more than 4 consecutive weeks due to the corticosteroid component. Any change to dose, frequency, or duration should only be made after discussion with the prescribing doctor.

Shelf Life

Daivobet Ointment typically has a shelf life of around 24 to 30 months from the date of manufacture when unopened and stored under recommended conditions. The exact expiry date is printed on the tube and outer carton and should always be checked before use.

Storage Instructions

Store Daivobet Ointment below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight, and keep the tube tightly closed after each use. Keep out of reach and sight of children, and do not use the ointment past its printed expiry date.

Side Effects

Betamethasone

  • Skin thinning (when used topically)
  • Irritation or burning at application site
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Mood changes or difficulty sleeping
  • Elevated blood sugar levels
  • Stomach upset or bloating
  • Delayed wound healing
  • Increased risk of infections

Calcipotriol

  • Skin irritation or dryness at the application site

Contraindications

  • Viral skin infections (such as herpes or chickenpox), fungal or bacterial skin infections, and untreated skin infections at the application site
  • Should not be applied to the face, groin, or armpits unless specifically directed by the prescribing doctor

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Concurrent use with other vitamin D analogues or high-dose vitamin D supplements may increase the risk of elevated blood calcium levels
  • Using Daivobet Ointment with other topical corticosteroids on the same area should be avoided unless directed by the prescribing doctor, as this may increase the risk of skin thinning
  • Occlusive dressings over treated areas can increase absorption of both active ingredients and should only be used if specifically advised by the prescribing doctor
  • Inform the prescribing doctor of all other topical or systemic medicines being used, including other steroid-containing products

Quick Tips

  • Apply only to the areas of skin specifically indicated by the prescribing doctor and avoid the face, groin, and armpits unless told otherwise
  • Do not use for longer than the prescribed duration, as prolonged corticosteroid use raises the risk of skin thinning
  • Attend scheduled follow-up reviews so the prescribing doctor can monitor progress and adjust treatment appropriately
  • Avoid covering treated skin with airtight or occlusive dressings unless specifically instructed
  • Contact the prescribing doctor if the skin worsens, becomes infected, or new symptoms appear during treatment

  • Calcipotriol (as calcipotriol monohydrate, active ingredient)

Because Daivobet Ointment contains a potent corticosteroid in combination with a vitamin D3 analogue, regular follow-up with the prescribing doctor is important to balance effective psoriasis control against the risks of prolonged corticosteroid exposure, such as skin thinning.
