Overview

Decolgen Fx Capsule is a combination cold and flu remedy containing paracetamol, pseudoephedrine, and chlorpheniramine maleate, used to relieve fever, headache, body aches, nasal congestion, sneezing, and runny nose associated with the common cold or flu.

Paracetamol reduces fever and pain, pseudoephedrine constricts swollen nasal blood vessels to relieve congestion, and chlorpheniramine blocks histamine to reduce sneezing and a runny nose – together targeting the main symptoms of a cold in one product.

How it Works

Paracetamol acts centrally to reduce the production of prostaglandins that cause pain and fever. Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic that narrows dilated nasal blood vessels, reducing swelling and congestion. Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors, reducing sneezing, itching, and nasal discharge, though it can also cause drowsiness.

Directions for Use

Take Decolgen Fx Capsule with a glass of water, with or after food. Avoid alcohol while taking this product, and do not take any other paracetamol-containing medicine at the same time, as this can lead to an accidental overdose. Use caution when driving or operating machinery, as this product may cause drowsiness in some people.

Dosage

The usual adult dose of Decolgen Fx Capsule is one capsule every 6-8 hours as needed for symptom relief, not exceeding the maximum daily dose stated on the product label. Do not use for more than a few days without consulting a doctor or pharmacist if symptoms persist.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Drowsiness or sedation
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Restlessness, insomnia, or a mild increase in heart rate
  • Serious: yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe abdominal pain, or signs of a severe allergic reaction (facial swelling, rash, difficulty breathing) require urgent medical attention

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to paracetamol, pseudoephedrine, chlorpheniramine, or any ingredient in this product
  • Severe high blood pressure or significant heart disease (due to the pseudoephedrine component)
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma or urinary retention (due to the chlorpheniramine component)
  • Use of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the last 14 days
  • Severe liver disease

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other paracetamol-containing products should be avoided to prevent exceeding the safe daily paracetamol limit
  • MAOIs can interact with pseudoephedrine to cause a dangerous rise in blood pressure
  • Alcohol and other sedating medicines can add to the drowsiness caused by chlorpheniramine
  • Other decongestants or stimulant medicines can increase the risk of a raised heart rate or blood pressure

Quick Tips

  • Check the labels of any other cold, flu, or pain medicines you take to avoid doubling up on paracetamol
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this product
  • See a doctor if fever, cough, or cold symptoms last more than 3-5 days or get worse
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel drowsy after taking this product

Frequently Asked Questions

What symptoms does Decolgen Fx Capsule help with?

Decolgen Fx Capsule helps relieve fever, headache, body aches, nasal congestion, sneezing, and runny nose that come with a common cold or flu.

Can I take Decolgen Fx Capsule together with another paracetamol tablet for pain?

No, doing so can cause you to exceed the safe daily limit of paracetamol, which can seriously harm the liver. Check that you are not taking any other paracetamol-containing product at the same time.

Will Decolgen Fx Capsule make me drowsy?

It can, because it contains chlorpheniramine, an antihistamine known to cause drowsiness in some people, so take care when driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.

How long can I take this product for?

It is intended for short-term relief of cold and flu symptoms, usually up to a few days; see a doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen.

Can I take Decolgen Fx Capsule if I have high blood pressure?

You should check with your doctor or pharmacist first, as the pseudoephedrine component can raise blood pressure and heart rate and may not be suitable for everyone with high blood pressure or heart conditions.
