Overview

Flomist 50mcg Nasal spray is supplied as a nasal spray, with Fluticasone Propionate 50mcg per metered spray. It is supplied in a pack size of 100 doses.

No prescription is required for this product, as it is a non-prescription medicine. This page is limited to product, safety and handling information.

If you would like guidance before buying, you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist through an online consultation on DoctorOnCall. Orders are dispensed by a registered pharmacist and delivered to your address.

Directions for Use

Gently shake the bottle before each use, blow your nose to clear the nasal passages, tilt your head slightly forward, insert the nozzle into one nostril while closing the other with a finger, and spray while breathing in gently through the nose, avoiding the nasal septum, using the exact number of sprays per nostril and frequency prescribed by your doctor.

Dosage

Dosage is individualised by the prescribing doctor based on symptom severity and age, and is typically one or two sprays into each nostril once daily for adults; the lowest effective dose should be used for the shortest period necessary, and the prescribed regimen should not be exceeded without medical advice.

Shelf Life

Flomist Nasal Spray is generally stable for up to 2 to 3 years from the date of manufacture when unopened; always check the expiry date printed on the carton and bottle, and discard the spray once opened for longer than the period stated on the packaging.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, keep the bottle upright with the cap on between uses, and keep out of reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Nasal dryness or irritation
  • Mild nosebleeds (epistaxis)
  • Headache
  • Unpleasant taste or smell after spraying
  • Sore or dry throat
  • Nasal congestion if the spray is stopped abruptly after prolonged use
  • Rarely, nasal septum irritation or perforation with prolonged or improper use

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to fluticasone propionate or any excipient in the spray
  • Untreated localised nasal infection, including fungal, bacterial, or viral infections
  • Recent nasal surgery or unhealed nasal injury/trauma
  • Active or untreated pulmonary tuberculosis
  • Use without medical supervision in children below the age assessed as suitable by the prescribing doctor

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Ritonavir and other potent CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase systemic exposure to fluticasone, raising the risk of corticosteroid-related side effects
  • Other inhaled, nasal, or systemic corticosteroids used concurrently may increase total corticosteroid exposure
  • Live or live-attenuated vaccines should be discussed with your doctor before use during treatment
  • Inform your doctor of all other nasal sprays or decongestants used at the same time

Quick Tips

  • Use Flomist at the same time each day for best results
  • Do not exceed the number of sprays per nostril prescribed by your doctor
  • Clean the nozzle regularly with a tissue to prevent blockage
  • Aim the spray slightly away from the nasal septum towards the outer wall of the nostril
  • See your doctor for follow-up if symptoms do not improve after 1-2 weeks
  • Do not stop or restart treatment without checking with your prescribing doctor
