Glendes 5mg Tablet

Glendes 5mg Tablet is a non-prescription antihistamine manufactured by Glenmark, containing desloratadine 5mg as its active ingredient. Desloratadine is a second-generation, selective peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist used to relieve the symptoms of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis (including hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). Unlike some older, first-generation antihistamines, desloratadine is formulated to act mainly outside the central nervous system, which is why it is generally described as a “non-drowsy” or “less-sedating” antihistamine for most users.

Glendes is intended for adults and adolescents above 12 years of age and is taken once daily. It is sold in Malaysia as a tablet in packs of 10s and 30s, and can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription, although — as with any medicine — it may not be suitable for everyone. People with significant kidney or liver problems, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, should check with a pharmacist or doctor before use.

Desloratadine works by selectively blocking peripheral histamine H1-receptors. Histamine is a chemical released by the body’s immune system during an allergic reaction, and it is responsible for many of the classic symptoms of allergy, including itching, sneezing, a runny nose, and swelling or redness of the skin (hives). By blocking H1-receptors, desloratadine prevents histamine from binding to them, which reduces or stops these allergic symptoms. Desloratadine is the active metabolite of loratadine and has a long duration of action, which is why it is taken only once a day.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, at approximately the same time each day to help maintain a consistent effect. Glendes can be taken with or without food. It is generally recommended to take it in the evening for allergic rhinitis symptoms, although your pharmacist can advise on timing based on when your symptoms are most troublesome. Before combining Glendes with any other allergy, cold, or flu product, check the active ingredients, as many combination cold and flu products already contain an antihistamine — taking two antihistamine-containing products together does not give extra relief and increases the risk of side effects.

The usual dose for adults and adolescents above 12 years is one 5mg tablet taken once daily, with or without food. Do not exceed one tablet in 24 hours. Glendes is not intended for children 12 years and under unless specifically advised by a doctor, as a lower-strength, age-appropriate formulation is usually needed for younger children. If your allergy symptoms do not improve after regular use, or return as soon as you stop the medicine, speak with a doctor or pharmacist rather than increasing the dose on your own. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember that day; do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Use this product before the expiry date printed on the packaging. Do not use the tablets if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to desloratadine, loratadine, or any of the tablet’s ingredients.
• Children 12 years and under, unless a lower, age-appropriate dose has been specifically advised by a doctor.

• Desloratadine has a low potential for clinically significant drug interactions compared with older antihistamines, but caution is still advised with certain medicines.
• Alcohol and other sedating medicines (e.g. sleeping tablets, some anti-anxiety or pain medicines): combining these with Glendes may increase drowsiness — avoid or limit alcohol while taking this medicine.
• Other antihistamines or cold and flu products containing an antihistamine: avoid taking together, as this increases the risk of side effects such as drowsiness or dry mouth without added benefit.
• Always tell your pharmacist or doctor about all other medicines you are taking, particularly if you have kidney or liver problems, as your dosing interval may need to be adjusted.

• Take Glendes at around the same time each day for the most consistent allergy control.
• Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours, even if your symptoms feel severe.
• Check the active ingredients of any other cold, flu, or allergy product before combining it with Glendes to avoid taking a duplicate antihistamine.
• Most people can drive or operate machinery as normal, but be cautious until you know your own response to this medicine.
• Keep track of how many days you have used Glendes without medical advice; continuous use beyond a few weeks should be discussed with a doctor or pharmacist.
• See a doctor if your allergy symptoms do not improve, worsen, or are accompanied by breathing difficulty or facial swelling.

Precautions: use with caution, and only after speaking with a doctor or pharmacist, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, elderly, or have significant kidney or liver impairment, as your dose or dosing interval may need adjustment. Glendes is not intended for children 12 years and under without medical advice. Most people find this medicine does not significantly affect alertness, but individual responses vary — take note of how it affects you before driving or operating machinery, and limit alcohol while taking it.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: your allergy symptoms are severe, do not improve after regular use, or return quickly once you stop the medicine; you need to use an antihistamine continuously for more than a few weeks; you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or considering use in a child 12 years and under; or you develop a fast or irregular heartbeat, or any sign of a severe allergic reaction such as facial or throat swelling or difficulty breathing.
