Iliadin 0.05% Decongestant Nasal Spray

Iliadin 0.05% Decongestant Nasal Spray contains oxymetazoline 0.05%, a fast-acting topical nasal decongestant used for the short-term relief of a blocked or stuffy nose. It is available without a prescription in Malaysia and is intended for adults and children over 6 years experiencing nasal congestion from the common cold, sinusitis, or allergic rhinitis.

Applied directly into the nostrils, it works quickly to shrink swollen nasal blood vessels, opening the nasal passages and making it easier to breathe. It is intended for short-term use only, as continuous use beyond the recommended period can lead to rebound congestion, so it should not be relied on as a long-term solution for chronic nasal blockage.

Oxymetazoline is a direct-acting sympathomimetic that stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors in the blood vessels of the nasal lining, causing them to constrict (vasoconstriction). This reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa, shrinking the tissue that is blocking the nasal passages and allowing air to flow more freely, typically within minutes of application.

Blow your nose gently to clear it before use. Tilt your head slightly forward, insert the spray nozzle into one nostril, and press down firmly once while breathing in gently through the nose; repeat for the other nostril. Avoid tilting your head backward, and clean the nozzle after use according to the instructions on the packaging.

Adults and children over 6 years should use 1 spray into each nostril, 2 to 3 times a day as needed, and should not use more than the maximum number of sprays stated on the packaging. Do not use for more than 3 to 5 consecutive days without a break, as prolonged use can lead to rebound nasal congestion.

Unopened, Iliadin 0.05% Decongestant Nasal Spray is generally stable for up to 24 to 36 months from the date of manufacture. Always check the expiry date on the packaging before use, and discard the bottle once opened for longer than the period stated on the label, typically around 3 to 6 months after first opening.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the cap tightly closed after each use to maintain sterility, and keep it out of the reach and sight of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline or any other ingredient
• Atrophic rhinitis (chronic thinning of the nasal lining)
• Current use of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or use within the past 2 weeks
• Use for longer than 3 to 5 consecutive days without a break
• Children under 6 years, unless a lower-strength product is specifically recommended

• Should not be used together with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), as this can cause a dangerous rise in blood pressure
• Caution advised in people taking other medicines for high blood pressure or heart conditions, as oxymetazoline may interact with these
• Avoid using other nasal decongestant sprays or drops at the same time
• No significant food interactions are expected with this product

• Use for no more than 3 to 5 consecutive days to avoid rebound congestion
• Clean the spray nozzle regularly to prevent contamination
• Avoid sharing your bottle with others to reduce the risk of spreading infection
• Blow your nose gently before spraying for better absorption
• See a doctor if congestion persists beyond a week or is accompanied by facial pain, high fever, or coloured discharge

Iliadin 0.05% Decongestant Nasal Spray is intended for short-term, occasional use only. Persistent or recurring nasal congestion, especially if accompanied by facial pain, high fever, or thick discoloured discharge, may indicate sinusitis or another condition that needs medical evaluation rather than continued self-treatment with decongestant sprays.
