Overview

Irbemac H 300/12.5 Tablet contains irbesartan 300mg and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg, a combination of an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and a thiazide diuretic used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) that is not adequately controlled by either medicine alone.

Irbesartan lowers blood pressure by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels, allowing them to relax and widen. Hydrochlorothiazide works differently, helping the kidneys remove excess salt and water from the body, which reduces the volume of fluid in the blood vessels. Together, these two mechanisms give a stronger blood-pressure-lowering effect than either medicine used alone.

How it Works

Irbesartan selectively blocks the AT1 receptor, preventing angiotensin II from narrowing blood vessels and promoting sodium retention. Hydrochlorothiazide acts on the kidneys, reducing reabsorption of sodium and water in the distal tubule so that more is excreted in urine. The combined effect is a reduction in blood vessel resistance and circulating fluid volume, both of which lower blood pressure.

Directions for Use

Take Irbemac H 300/12.5 Tablet at about the same time every day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well, as blood pressure control needs to be continuous.

Dosage

Irbemac H 300/12.5 Tablet is usually taken once daily, with your doctor determining the correct strength for you based on your blood pressure response and any dose you may already be taking of either component separately. Blood pressure control is usually assessed after a few weeks of treatment, and your doctor may adjust your regimen based on your response.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Irbemac H 300/12.5 Tablet used for?

Irbemac H 300/12.5 Tablet is a combination medicine used to treat high blood pressure that is not fully controlled by a single blood pressure medicine alone.

Why does this tablet contain two different medicines?

Irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide lower blood pressure through different mechanisms, so combining them in one tablet can achieve better blood pressure control than either medicine used on its own.

Can I stop taking this medicine if my blood pressure normalises?

No, do not stop without consulting your doctor. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and stopping suddenly can cause your blood pressure to rise again.

Will this medicine make me urinate more?

Yes, hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and increases urination, particularly in the first few weeks of treatment. This is expected, but tell your doctor if you feel excessively dehydrated or dizzy.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Irbemac H 300/12.5 Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
