Levozin 5mg Tablet contains levocetirizine 5mg, a second-generation antihistamine that provides effective, once-daily relief from allergy symptoms with a lower tendency to cause drowsiness than older antihistamines like chlorpheniramine. It works by blocking histamine, the substance your body releases during an allergic reaction, helping to relieve sneezing, a runny or itchy nose, watery and itchy eyes, and skin itching.

It is commonly used for allergic rhinitis, including seasonal hay fever and year-round (perennial) allergies, as well as chronic hives (urticaria) with persistent itching and skin welts. Because levocetirizine is a more selective, longer-acting antihistamine, Levozin 5mg Tablet is often chosen by people who need daytime allergy relief without the marked sleepiness associated with first-generation antihistamines, although a small number of users may still notice some drowsiness.

Levocetirizine is the active enantiomer of cetirizine and works by selectively blocking peripheral H1-histamine receptors, preventing histamine from causing the typical allergic symptoms of itching, swelling, sneezing, and excess mucus or tear production. It crosses into the brain to a much lesser extent than first-generation antihistamines, which is why it is generally associated with less sedation while still providing a full 24-hour duration of action from a single daily dose.

Take Levozin 5mg Tablet by mouth, usually once a day in the evening, with or without food, swallowed whole with a glass of water. Try to take it at around the same time each day for consistent symptom control, and do not increase the dose even if symptoms feel severe — speak to a pharmacist or doctor instead if one tablet daily isn’t enough.

The usual dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above is one 5mg tablet once daily. People with reduced kidney function may need a lower dose or less frequent dosing, as levocetirizine is cleared mainly through the kidneys, so those with known kidney problems should check with a pharmacist or doctor before use. It should be used with caution and at an adjusted dose in people with significant kidney impairment, and pregnant or breastfeeding women, the elderly, and those with existing kidney disease should seek pharmacist or doctor advice before starting it.
