Overview

Maxidex 0.1% Eye Drop contains Dexamethasone 0.1% and is presented as eye drops. It is supplied in a pack size of 5ml.

It is classified as a non-prescription medicine, so no prescription is needed to order it. Under Malaysian rules for medicine information, this page carries product, safety and handling information only.

You can consult a doctor or pharmacist online on DoctorOnCall about this product before or after you order. Every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is delivered. Always read the label and the leaflet supplied with the pack.

Directions for Use

Maxidex 0.1% Eye Drop should only be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor following an online consultation. Wash your hands, tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instil the prescribed number of drops into the pocket without letting the dropper tip touch the eye, eyelid, or any surface. Close your eyes gently for one to two minutes and apply light pressure at the inner corner of the eye to minimise systemic absorption.

Dosage

The usual prescribed dose is 1 to 2 drops instilled into the affected eye(s) every 4 to 6 hours during the initial 24 to 48 hours, which your doctor may adjust to 1 drop every 4 hours or less frequent dosing as the condition improves. Treatment duration and tapering schedule should strictly follow your doctor’s instructions, as stopping corticosteroid eye drops abruptly after prolonged use is generally not advised.

Shelf Life

Maxidex 0.1% Eye Drop is generally stable up to the expiry date printed on the packaging when unopened and stored correctly; once opened, the bottle should typically be discarded within 4 weeks as advised by your pharmacist to reduce the risk of contamination.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep the bottle tightly closed between uses. Keep out of reach of children, and do not use the drops past their expiry date or beyond the recommended in-use period after opening.

Side Effects

  • Temporary stinging or burning sensation after instillation
  • Blurred vision immediately after application
  • Increased intraocular (eye) pressure, particularly with prolonged use
  • Delayed wound healing in the eye
  • Increased risk of cataract formation with long-term use
  • Increased susceptibility to secondary eye infections, including fungal or viral infections, with extended use

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to dexamethasone or other corticosteroids
  • Most viral infections of the eye, including herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, and varicella (chickenpox-related eye lesions)
  • Fungal infections of the eye
  • Mycobacterial (including tuberculous) infections of the eye
  • Untreated acute purulent (pus-producing) bacterial eye infections

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Space at least 5 minutes apart from other eye drops if more than one product is prescribed
  • Concurrent use with other corticosteroid eye products may increase the risk of raised eye pressure
  • Caution with other medicines affecting the immune system, as corticosteroids can further suppress local immune response
  • Contact lens wear should generally be avoided during treatment unless your doctor advises otherwise

Quick Tips

  • Always complete the course as prescribed and attend any follow-up review your doctor recommends, including eye pressure checks
  • Do not stop or taper the dose without your doctor’s advice, especially after prolonged use
  • Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye, skin, or any surface to prevent contamination
  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before use unless your doctor says otherwise
  • Seek prompt medical review if symptoms worsen, vision changes, or eye pain increases

How long will delivery take?

Within Malaysia, standard delivery takes 3 to 5 working days. Same-day delivery is available in the Klang Valley for orders placed before 12pm; orders placed after 12pm arrive by the end of the next day.

Orders to Singapore are sent as international deliveries and take 5 to 9 working days. A lump-sum shipping and handling fee applies to every overseas delivery and is shown at checkout.

What payment methods can I use?

Customers in Malaysia can pay by FPX online banking, credit or debit card (Visa and Mastercard), and supported e-wallets including Touch ‘n Go eWallet, GrabPay and ShopeePay.

FPX and local e-wallets are tied to Malaysian bank and wallet accounts, so if your delivery address is in Singapore, use the payment options displayed at checkout for that address rather than assuming the same list applies.

Can Maxidex 0.1% Eye Drop be delivered to Singapore?

Yes. DoctorOnCall ships to Singapore as an international order dispatched from Malaysia, arriving in 5 to 9 working days with a lump-sum shipping and handling fee.

Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) allows personal imports of up to three months’ supply of a medicine for your own use or an immediate family member’s, as long as it contains no controlled drugs, psychotropic substances or prohibited items. Keep the product in its original labelled packaging and keep a copy of your prescription or doctor’s letter with it. Quantities above three months’ supply, and medicines containing controlled substances, require prior HSA approval.

Is Maxidex 0.1% Eye Drop registered with the authorities?

Products listed on DoctorOnCall are registered with Malaysia’s Ministry of Health for supply in Malaysia, and each pack carries its MAL registration number.

An order delivered to Singapore arrives as a personal import of a Malaysia-registered product; HSA product registration is not required for personal-use quantities, but it is also not the same as a product registered for sale in Singapore. If you need a locally registered Singapore product, buy it from a pharmacy in Singapore.

Who do I contact if there is a problem with my order?

DoctorOnCall’s customer care team handles order, delivery and product queries through the contact channels on the site, including WhatsApp and the online help centre.

For deliveries to Singapore, allow more time before chasing an order than you would for a local Malaysian delivery, as the parcel passes through customs clearance and tracking updates can appear later in the journey.
