Overview

Resolor 2mg Tablet contains prucalopride 2mg, a selective serotonin 5-HT4 receptor agonist used to treat chronic constipation in adults, particularly when laxatives have not provided adequate relief. The 2mg dose is the standard adult dose.

Prucalopride works by stimulating 5-HT4 receptors in the wall of the colon, which enhances colonic motility – the coordinated muscle contractions that move stool through the bowel – helping restore more regular and complete bowel movements.

How it Works

Prucalopride selectively activates 5-HT4 serotonin receptors located on nerve endings in the colon wall. This stimulates the release of signalling molecules that increase peristalsis (the wave-like muscle contractions of the bowel), speeding up colonic transit and promoting more regular bowel movements.

Directions for Use

Take Resolor 2mg Tablet once daily at about the same time, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It is usually taken in the morning, but your doctor may advise a different time based on your routine.

Dosage

The 2mg dose is the standard adult dose. Your doctor will confirm the correct dose for you based on your age, kidney function, and response to treatment, and will advise how long to continue treatment based on your symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Resolor 2mg Tablet used for?

Resolor 2mg Tablet is used to treat chronic constipation in adults, particularly when regular laxatives have not given adequate relief.

How is this different from a laxative?

Unlike stimulant or osmotic laxatives that act mainly by softening stool or irritating the bowel, prucalopride works by stimulating specific receptors in the colon wall to enhance the bowel’s natural muscle contractions and movement.

How quickly will this medicine start working?

Many people notice an improvement in bowel movements within the first week of treatment, though your doctor will assess your response and may adjust the dose or duration of treatment.

Why do I have diarrhoea when I first start this medicine?

Diarrhoea is a common side effect, particularly in the first few days as your bowel motility increases. It usually settles with continued use, but tell your doctor if it is severe or persistent.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Resolor 2mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember on the same day, but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as normal. Do not take a double dose.
