Overview

Salonpas Jet Spray contains Methyl Salicylate, Menthol and Camphor and is presented as a spray. It is supplied in a pack size of 118ml.

It is classified as an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine, so no prescription is needed to order it. Under Malaysian rules for medicine information, this page carries product, safety and handling information only.

You can consult a doctor or pharmacist online on DoctorOnCall about this product before or after you order. Every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is delivered. Always read the label and the leaflet supplied with the pack.

Directions for Use

Shake the bottle well before each use. Hold the spray nozzle about 10cm (4 inches) from the skin and spray the affected area briefly, for no more than 1 second at a time, aiming only at the area of pain. Avoid spraying near the eyes, mouth, nose, or other mucous membranes, and avoid inhaling the spray mist directly — use in a well-ventilated area and turn your face away while spraying. Do not apply to broken, irritated, or damaged skin, or to open wounds. Allow the spray to dry completely, which usually takes a few minutes, before covering the area with clothing or a bandage, and wash your hands after use unless the hands are the area being treated. Do not bandage the area tightly, and do not use it together with a heating pad, hot water bottle, or other external heat source, as this can increase absorption and the risk of skin burns. Because Salonpas Jet Spray is a flammable pressurised product, do not use it near an open flame, lit cigarette, or any other source of sparks or high heat, and avoid spraying in confined, poorly ventilated spaces.

Dosage

For adults and children aged 12 years and above, Salonpas Jet Spray should be sprayed onto the affected area from a distance of about 10cm (4 inches), for no more than 1 second per spray. This can be repeated up to 3 to 4 times a day as needed, but should not be used more often than directed on the product label. Children under 12 years of age should only use this product on the advice of a doctor or pharmacist, as the appropriate dose and safety in younger children has not been established. Avoid applying to more than one area in excessive amounts at a time, as absorbing too much methyl salicylate through the skin can lead to salicylate toxicity (see Side Effects).

Shelf Life

No independently verified shelf-life duration specific to the Malaysian pack of Salonpas Jet Spray was available at the time of writing. As with all Salonpas products, use before the expiry date printed on the packaging, and discard any unused product responsibly after this date rather than continuing to use it.

Storage Instructions

Store Salonpas Jet Spray at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat, and keep it away from temperatures above 49°C (120°F), as the contents are under pressure and can rupture or ignite if overheated. Do not store the bottle near an open flame, stove, heater, or in a car parked in direct sun. Keep the spray tightly closed when not in use, and store it out of reach of children and pets. Do not puncture, incinerate, or throw the container into a fire, even after it is empty or partly used.

Side Effects

  • Common: a warming or cooling sensation, mild tingling, or slight redness at the site of application, which usually fades on its own.
  • Common: mild skin irritation, dryness, or itching where the spray was applied.
  • Serious: an allergic skin reaction, such as a spreading rash, hives, severe itching, blistering, or swelling, which needs prompt medical attention.
  • Serious: chemical burns or skin damage, particularly if the spray is used under a bandage, with a heating pad, or on broken skin.
  • Serious: signs of salicylate toxicity (such as ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, confusion, rapid breathing, or dizziness) if excessive amounts are absorbed through the skin, especially if used over large areas, too frequently, or by children.

Contraindications

  • Known allergy or hypersensitivity to aspirin, other salicylates, menthol, camphor, or any other ingredient in the spray.
  • Use on broken, irritated, infected, or damaged skin, or on open wounds and cuts.
  • Use in children under 12 years of age without medical advice.
  • Use near an open flame, lit cigarette, sparks, or other heat/ignition sources, as the product is flammable.
  • Use together with a heating pad, hot water bottle, or tight bandaging over the treated area.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Salonpas Jet Spray is applied to the skin, so it generally carries a lower risk of interacting with oral medicines than tablets do, but methyl salicylate can still be absorbed into the bloodstream, particularly if used over large areas, on broken skin, or in more-than-directed amounts.
  • People taking oral blood-thinning medicines (anticoagulants) such as warfarin should use this product with caution and inform their doctor or pharmacist, as absorbed methyl salicylate may add to the blood-thinning effect and increase bleeding risk.
  • Avoid using this spray at the same time as other topical or oral products containing salicylates (such as aspirin, other methyl salicylate–containing creams or patches, or wintergreen oil), as this can increase the total salicylate dose absorbed and the risk of toxicity.
  • Tell your pharmacist about all other medicines and topical products you are using before starting this spray, especially if you take regular prescription medicines.

Quick Tips

  • Do a small patch test on a small area of skin first if you are using Salonpas Jet Spray for the first time, to check for sensitivity before applying it more widely.
  • Spray only the specific area that hurts rather than a wide area of skin, to reduce the amount absorbed and the risk of irritation.
  • Let the spray dry fully before getting dressed or covering the area, so it does not transfer onto clothing or bedding.
  • Keep the bottle upright and store it away from heaters, stoves, direct sunlight, and hot cars, since it is a pressurised, flammable product.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after each use unless your hands are the treated area, to avoid accidentally rubbing the spray into your eyes.
  • If pain, swelling, or stiffness lasts more than 7 days, or keeps coming back, see a doctor rather than continuing to rely on the spray alone.

Can Salonpas Jet Spray be delivered to Singapore?

Yes. DoctorOnCall ships to Singapore as an international order dispatched from Malaysia, arriving in 5 to 9 working days with a lump-sum shipping and handling fee.

Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) allows personal imports of up to three months’ supply of a medicine for your own use or an immediate family member’s, as long as it contains no controlled drugs, psychotropic substances or prohibited items. Keep the product in its original labelled packaging and keep a copy of your prescription or doctor’s letter with it. Quantities above three months’ supply, and medicines containing controlled substances, require prior HSA approval.

Is Salonpas Jet Spray registered with the authorities?

Products listed on DoctorOnCall are registered with Malaysia’s Ministry of Health for supply in Malaysia, and each pack carries its MAL registration number.

An order delivered to Singapore arrives as a personal import of a Malaysia-registered product; HSA product registration is not required for personal-use quantities, but it is also not the same as a product registered for sale in Singapore. If you need a locally registered Singapore product, buy it from a pharmacy in Singapore.

Who do I contact if there is a problem with my order?

DoctorOnCall’s customer care team handles order, delivery and product queries through the contact channels on the site, including WhatsApp and the online help centre.

For deliveries to Singapore, allow more time before chasing an order than you would for a local Malaysian delivery, as the parcel passes through customs clearance and tracking updates can appear later in the journey.

These natural agents work together to ease inflammation, soothe sore muscles, and increase blood flow to the affected area for faster healing.

Relevant Information

Precautions: Salonpas Jet Spray is for external use on unbroken skin only and should never be swallowed or used inside the mouth, nose, or eyes. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should check with a doctor or pharmacist before using this product, as there is limited safety data on topical salicylate absorption in pregnancy. It should be used with caution in people with a chronic respiratory condition or a known sensitivity to aspirin/NSAIDs, as salicylates can occasionally trigger a reaction in sensitive individuals. Use in older adults and people with a chronic health condition or liver conditions should also be discussed with a pharmacist, as absorbed salicylate is cleared through these organs. Keep the spray away from children at all times, as accidental ingestion of methyl salicylate–containing products can be seriously toxic even in small amounts.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a known allergy to aspirin or other salicylates, or are taking blood-thinning medicine. Stop using the spray and seek medical advice if you develop a skin rash, blistering, severe irritation, or swelling, or if your pain, bruising, or swelling does not improve or gets worse after 7 days of use. Seek urgent medical attention if the spray is accidentally swallowed, gets into the eyes or mouth, or if you notice symptoms such as ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, confusion, or rapid breathing, which can indicate salicylate toxicity.
