Overview
Tenof-Em Tablet is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medicine containing tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg and emtricitabine 200mg, two nucleos(t)ide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). It is used, together with other antiretroviral medicines, to treat HIV-1 infection, and is also used on its own as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV in people at high risk of exposure.
Both tenofovir and emtricitabine work by being converted inside cells into active forms that block HIV reverse transcriptase, the enzyme HIV needs to copy its genetic material into the host cell’s DNA, thereby stopping the virus from replicating.
How it Works

Take Tenof-Em Tablet at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop or skip doses, and never stop this medicine without speaking to your doctor first, as inconsistent use can lead to the virus becoming resistant to treatment.
