Overview

Terbicip 250mg Tablet contains terbinafine hydrochloride 250mg, an antifungal medicine belonging to the allylamine class. It is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails, particularly dermatophyte infections such as tinea (ringworm), athlete’s foot, jock itch, and fungal nail infections (onychomycosis) that are difficult to treat with topical products alone.

Terbinafine works by inhibiting an enzyme called squalene epoxidase, which fungi need to build their cell membranes. This leads to a build-up of squalene inside the fungal cell and a deficiency of ergosterol, ultimately causing the fungal cell to die (a fungicidal effect).

How it Works

Terbinafine selectively inhibits fungal squalene epoxidase, blocking an early step in ergosterol synthesis that fungal cell membranes depend on. The resulting squalene accumulation and ergosterol deficiency disrupt the fungal cell membrane, leading to fungal cell death.

Directions for Use

Take Terbicip 250mg Tablet at about the same time each day, with or without food. Complete the full course as prescribed even if your nails or skin appear to improve before treatment ends, as fungal nail infections need prolonged treatment for the new, healthy nail to grow out fully.

Dosage

The usual adult dose is 250mg once daily. Treatment duration depends on the site and severity of the infection – typically 2-6 weeks for skin infections, but up to 6 weeks for fingernail infections and up to 12 weeks or longer for toenail infections. Your doctor will determine the appropriate duration for your specific infection.
