Overview

Torrent Valzaar 80mg Tablet contains valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults, and also used to manage heart failure and to improve survival after a heart attack.

Valsartan works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure, allowing blood vessels to relax and widen.

How it Works

Torrent Valzaar selectively blocks angiotensin II from binding to its receptor on blood vessel walls, preventing the vessel-narrowing and sodium- and water-retaining effects of this hormone. This relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the workload on the heart.

Directions for Use

Take the tablet once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, swallowed whole with water.

Dosage

The usual adult dose for high blood pressure is 80mg to 160mg once daily, adjusted by your doctor based on response; doses for heart failure or post-heart attack use are individualised and started lower.

Shelf Life

Refer to the expiry date printed on the packaging.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Torrent Valzaar used for?

Torrent Valzaar contains valsartan and is used to treat high blood pressure, manage heart failure, and improve survival after a heart attack.

How does Torrent Valzaar work?

It blocks a hormone called angiotensin II that narrows blood vessels, allowing blood vessels to relax and widen, which lowers blood pressure.

Can I stop taking this medicine once my blood pressure is normal?

No, high blood pressure treatment is usually long-term – stopping suddenly can cause your blood pressure to rise again. Only adjust treatment under your doctor’s guidance.

Can I take this medicine if I am pregnant?

No, this medicine is not safe during pregnancy and can seriously harm the developing baby – inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.

Does this medicine cause a dry cough like some other blood pressure medicines?

Valsartan is generally associated with a lower risk of dry cough compared to ACE inhibitors, though it can still occur occasionally.

Why do I need regular blood tests on this medicine?

Blood tests monitor your kidney function and blood potassium levels, which can be affected by this medicine.

Can I take potassium supplements or salt substitutes with this medicine?

Avoid these unless specifically directed by your doctor, as they can raise blood potassium to dangerous levels.
