Overview

Tussidex Forte 15mg/5ml Linctus is supplied as a healthcare product, with Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 15mg per 5ml. It is supplied in pack sizes of 120ml and 90ml.

No prescription is required for this product, as it is a non-prescription medicine. This page is limited to product, safety and handling information.

If you would like guidance before buying, you can speak to a doctor or pharmacist through an online consultation on DoctorOnCall. Orders are dispensed by a registered pharmacist and delivered to your address.

Directions for Use

Shake the bottle well before each use and measure the dose accurately using the measuring cup or spoon provided, not an ordinary household spoon. Tussidex Forte is taken by mouth, swallowed directly without diluting, and should be used at the lowest effective dose needed to control the cough. Do not use for more than 7 days in a row without medical advice, and do not combine with any other cough, cold, or flu product that also contains dextromethorphan.

Dosage

Adults and children aged 12 years and above may generally take 10ml (2 teaspoonfuls) up to 3 to 4 times a day as needed, not exceeding the maximum stated on the product label. Children aged 6 to under 12 years typically take a lower dose of around 5ml, as advised by a pharmacist or doctor. Tussidex Forte is not recommended for children under 6 years old unless specifically directed by a doctor, and doses should never be repeated more frequently than the label allows.

Shelf Life

Unopened, Tussidex Forte Linctus is generally stable for up to the expiry date printed on the bottle carton, typically 2 to 3 years from the date of manufacture. Always check the printed expiry date before use and do not use the product beyond that date.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, with the cap tightly closed after each use. Keep the bottle out of the sight and reach of children, and discard any unused linctus once it has passed its expiry date or the in-use period stated on the label.

Relevant Information

Most dry coughs linked to colds or minor viral infections settle on their own within one to two weeks, and a cough suppressant like Tussidex Forte is meant to provide short-term comfort rather than treat the underlying cause. If the cough becomes productive, is associated with wheezing or breathlessness, or does not improve after a week of use, further medical evaluation is recommended before continuing self-treatment.
