Overview

Univate 0.05% Cream contains Clobetasol propionate 0.05% w/w and is presented as a cream. It is supplied in a pack size of 15g.

It is classified as a non-prescription medicine, so no prescription is needed to order it. Under Malaysian rules for medicine information, this page carries product, safety and handling information only.

You can consult a doctor or pharmacist online on DoctorOnCall about this product before or after you order. Every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is delivered. Always read the label and the leaflet supplied with the pack.

Directions for Use

Apply a thin layer of Univate Cream to the affected skin only, exactly as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily. Rub in gently until absorbed and wash your hands afterward unless the hands are being treated; avoid applying to the face, groin, or underarms unless your doctor has specifically instructed this, as these areas are more prone to steroid side effects.

Dosage

Use the smallest amount needed to thinly cover the affected area, for the shortest duration recommended by your doctor, typically not exceeding 2 consecutive weeks without a medical review. This medicine requires a valid prescription obtained through an online consultation with a doctor via DoctorOnCall, and the treated area or duration should never be extended without your doctor’s confirmation.

Shelf Life

Univate 0.05% Cream is generally stable for up to 36 months from the date of manufacture when unopened and stored correctly. Always check the expiry date printed on the tube and carton before use and do not use beyond this date.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly capped after use and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Burning, stinging or irritation at the application site
  • Dry or cracked skin
  • Skin thinning (with prolonged use)
  • Changes in skin color
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne or increased hair growth on treated areas

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to clobetasol propionate or other corticosteroids
  • Untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infections at the application site
  • Acne, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis
  • Not for use on the face, groin, or underarms unless specifically directed by a doctor
  • Not intended for long-term continuous use without regular medical review
  • Use in children generally avoided unless specifically prescribed, due to higher risk of systemic absorption

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Concurrent use with other topical corticosteroids on the same area should be avoided unless directed by a doctor, as this raises the risk of skin thinning and systemic absorption
  • Covering treated skin with occlusive dressings increases absorption significantly and should only be done under medical instruction
  • No significant food interactions are expected with topical application

Quick Tips

  • Apply only to the area and for the duration specifically prescribed by your doctor — do not use as a general moisturiser
  • Avoid use on broken, infected, or weeping skin unless your doctor has advised otherwise
  • Do not cover or bandage the treated area tightly unless instructed, as this increases absorption
  • Attend scheduled follow-ups so your doctor can monitor your skin’s response and check for early signs of thinning
  • Never share this medicine with another person, even with similar-looking skin symptoms

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Clobetasol propionate 0.05% w/w
  • Cetostearyl alcohol

Relevant Information

Clobetasol propionate cream is reserved for short courses of treatment for severe, steroid-responsive skin conditions that have not improved with weaker topical treatments, given its high potency and associated risk of skin thinning with prolonged use. DoctorOnCall dispenses Univate Cream only after a doctor’s assessment through an online consultation, with follow-up recommended to ensure safe and effective use for patients in Malaysia and Singapore.
