Winspirin 300mg Tablet

Winspirin 300mg Tablet is an over-the-counter medication belonging to the salicylate drug class, with aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) 300mg as its active ingredient, supplied in a pack of 30 tablets. It has been available in Malaysian pharmacies for many years and is one of the more established OTC salicylate products on the market.

Aspirin at this OTC strength is one of the older and most extensively studied medicines in the salicylate class, distinguishing it from newer analgesics such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. As an OTC preparation, it is registered for sale in Malaysia without a doctor’s prescription, though long-term or cardiovascular-related use is usually guided by a doctor.

Take with a full glass of water, preferably with or after food, to reduce the chance of stomach irritation. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew unless your pharmacist has confirmed the tablet is suitable for that. Do not lie down immediately after taking it.

Adults: the typical OTC dose is 300 to 900mg (1 to 3 tablets) every 4 to 6 hours as needed, not exceeding the maximum stated on the packaging, or as directed by a doctor for long-term cardiovascular use, which is usually a much lower daily dose. Not recommended for children and teenagers under 16 years due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome. If a dose is missed for a regular regimen, take it when remembered unless close to the next dose.

Use before the expiry date printed on the strip and carton. Discard tablets that smell strongly of vinegar, as this indicates the aspirin has started to break down.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep in the original strip until ready to use, and keep out of reach and sight of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to aspirin, other salicylates, or NSAIDs.
• Active peptic ulcer disease or a history of gastrointestinal bleeding.
• Children and teenagers under 16 years with a viral illness, due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome.
• Bleeding disorders or conditions with a significantly increased bleeding risk, unless specifically directed by a doctor.

• Combining aspirin with anticoagulants (such as warfarin) or other antiplatelet medicines can significantly increase the risk of bleeding.
• Taking aspirin together with other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen) can increase the risk of stomach irritation and bleeding, and may reduce the heart-protective effect of low-dose aspirin regimens.
• Aspirin may increase the effect of certain diabetes medicines and interact with methotrexate at higher doses; check with a pharmacist if you take either of these.
• Regular alcohol consumption together with aspirin can further increase the risk of stomach irritation and bleeding.

Precautions: Use with caution in the elderly, and in people with asthma, gout, or reduced kidney or liver function, who should check with a doctor first. When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical advice if pain or fever does not improve within a few days, if you notice signs of stomach bleeding, unusual bruising, ringing in the ears, or if you are considering starting or stopping regular aspirin use for heart health.
