Overview

Hytrin 2mg Tablet contains terazosin 2mg, an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker used to treat the urinary symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, an enlarged prostate) and, in some cases, high blood pressure.

Terazosin works by blocking alpha-1 receptors in the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck, allowing the muscle to relax so urine flows more easily. It also relaxes smooth muscle in blood vessel walls, which lowers blood pressure.

How it Works

Terazosin selectively blocks alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, relaxing smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck to ease urine outflow, and relaxing smooth muscle in blood vessels, which widens them and lowers blood pressure.

Directions for Use

Take the first dose of Hytrin 2mg Tablet at bedtime to reduce the risk of dizziness or fainting from a sudden drop in blood pressure. It can be taken with or without food, at the same time each day. Rise slowly from lying or sitting, especially when starting treatment or after a dose increase.

Dosage

Hytrin 2mg Tablet is usually started at a low dose, often taken at bedtime, and your doctor may gradually increase it based on your response and tolerance. Do not increase your own dose – restarting at the low dose again may be needed if you miss several days of treatment, as the risk of low blood pressure returns.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hytrin 2mg Tablet used for?

Hytrin 2mg Tablet is used to relieve urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate (BPH), and can also be used to help manage high blood pressure. Your doctor will confirm the specific reason it has been prescribed for you.

Why should I take my first dose at bedtime?

Terazosin can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, particularly with the first dose, which may lead to dizziness or fainting. Taking it at bedtime reduces the risk of this happening while you are up and about.

Can I take this medicine with sildenafil or similar medicines?

Combining terazosin with PDE5 inhibitors such as sildenafil or tadalafil can cause an additive drop in blood pressure. Discuss this combination with your doctor, who may advise on timing or dose adjustments.

How long does it take to notice an improvement in my urinary symptoms?

Some improvement in urinary flow may be noticeable within the first couple of weeks, though your doctor may adjust your dose over several weeks to find the most effective level for you.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Hytrin 2mg Tablet?

If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it is close to your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose. If you have missed several days in a row, contact your doctor, as you may need to restart at a lower dose.
