Acyclovir Stada 5% Cream contains acyclovir 5%, a topical antiviral medication used for the treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis) caused by the herpes simplex virus, typically appearing as painful, fluid-filled blisters around the lips and mouth. It is most effective when applied at the very first sign of an outbreak, such as tingling, itching, or redness, before blisters have fully formed, helping to reduce the severity and duration of the episode.

Acyclovir Stada 5% Cream is a non-prescription (over-the-counter) product available in Malaysia, commonly kept on hand by individuals who experience recurrent cold sores triggered by factors such as stress, sun exposure, or a weakened immune system. It works directly at the site of infection and does not cure the underlying herpes simplex virus, which remains dormant in the body between outbreaks.

Acyclovir is a synthetic nucleoside analogue that is selectively taken up and activated inside cells infected with the herpes simplex virus, where it is converted into its active form and incorporated into the viral DNA, blocking the viral DNA polymerase enzyme and halting further viral replication. Because this activation occurs mainly in virus-infected cells, acyclovir cream targets the infection at the skin surface while having minimal effect on healthy surrounding skin.

Wash and dry the affected area before use, then apply a thin layer of Acyclovir Stada 5% Cream to the cold sore and the surrounding skin, usually five times a day at approximately four-hour intervals, avoiding the night-time dose if convenient. Use a clean fingertip or cotton bud for application and wash your hands immediately afterwards to avoid spreading the virus to other areas, such as the eyes, or to other people.

The usual course is to apply Acyclovir Stada 5% Cream five times daily for 4 to 5 consecutive days, starting as early as possible when the first symptoms of a cold sore, such as tingling or itching, are noticed. Acyclovir Stada 5% Cream typically has a shelf life of around 24 to 36 months from the date of manufacture when unopened and stored under the recommended conditions. Always check the expiry date printed on the tube and outer carton before use, and do not use the product beyond this date.

Store Acyclovir Stada 5% Cream below 25°C to 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tube tightly capped after each use and out of the reach and sight of children.
