Overview

Arcoxia 60mg Tablet contains etoricoxib 60mg, a selective COX-2 inhibitor (a type of NSAID) used to relieve pain and inflammation in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute gout.

Etoricoxib works by selectively blocking the COX-2 enzyme, which reduces production of prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation, while having relatively less effect on the COX-1 enzyme that helps protect the stomach lining compared to traditional NSAIDs.

How it Works

Etoricoxib selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), the enzyme mainly responsible for producing prostaglandins at sites of inflammation and pain, while largely sparing COX-1, the enzyme involved in maintaining the protective lining of the stomach.

Directions for Use

Take Arcoxia 60mg Tablet once daily, with or without food, swallowing the tablet whole with water. Do not exceed the dose or duration prescribed by your doctor.

Dosage

The usual dose of Arcoxia 60mg Tablet for osteoarthritis is 60mg once daily. Your doctor may prescribe a higher strength for other conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or acute gout, and will determine the appropriate dose and duration – always use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time needed.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Contraindications

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Arcoxia 60mg Tablet used for?

Arcoxia 60mg Tablet is used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute gout flares.

Is this medicine safer for the stomach than other painkillers?

Etoricoxib is more selective for the COX-2 enzyme, which may lower the risk of stomach ulcers compared with some traditional NSAIDs, but it still carries a risk of gastrointestinal side effects and is not risk-free.

Can this medicine affect my blood pressure?

Yes, etoricoxib and similar medicines can raise blood pressure or cause fluid retention in some people. Your doctor may want to monitor your blood pressure while you are taking it, especially if you already have hypertension or heart disease.

Can I take this with aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers?

It is generally not recommended to combine etoricoxib with other NSAIDs or aspirin, as this increases the risk of stomach and cardiovascular side effects, unless your doctor has specifically advised low-dose aspirin for a separate reason.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Arcoxia 60mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
