BioGrow Mixed Berries with Multi Enzymes Tablet

BioGrow Mixed Berries with Multi Enzymes Tablet is a chewable digestive enzyme supplement from BioGrow that combines a multi-enzyme blend with a mixture of berry and fruit ingredients. Each chewable tablet provides ten enzymes – amylase, lactase, maltase, invertase, protease, Peptizyme SP®, bromelain, lipase, cellulase and HemiSeb® – together with a fruit blend of strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, elderberry, black grape and red beet. It is sweetened with xylitol and has a mixed berries flavour, making it an alternative for adults who prefer a chewable format over capsules.

Each enzyme in the blend acts on a different part of a typical meal: amylase and maltase on starches and their breakdown products, lactase on milk sugar (lactose), invertase on table sugar (sucrose), protease, Peptizyme SP® and bromelain on proteins, lipase on fats, and cellulase and HemiSeb® on plant fibres. The berries and red beet contribute natural fruit components and colour, but the amounts are small compared with eating whole fruit, so the tablet should not be relied on as a source of fruit or vegetable servings. Enzyme supplements provide additional enzymes alongside food and are not a substitute for medical assessment of ongoing digestive symptoms.

The tablet is meant to be chewed with meals so that the enzymes are present when food is being digested. As the formula contains bromelain from pineapple and xylitol as a sweetener, people with pineapple allergy, those taking blood-thinning medicines, and anyone sensitive to sugar alcohols should read the label and check with a pharmacist first. Chew the tablet thoroughly before swallowing, at the start of or during a meal, so the enzymes are taken together with food. Do not take more than the recommended amount, as excess xylitol can cause loose stools.

Adults: Chew the number of tablets stated on the product label with meals, or as directed by a doctor or pharmacist.

Do not exceed the recommended daily intake on the label. For children, follow only the age guidance on the label or a doctor’s advice. If you miss a dose, take the next dose with your next meal without doubling up.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and humidity, as moisture can soften chewable tablets and reduce enzyme activity. Keep the container tightly closed and keep out of reach of children and pets. Follow any further storage directions on the label.

• Common: Mild digestive symptoms such as nausea, stomach discomfort or wind.
• Common: Loose stools or bloating, which can be linked to the xylitol sweetener, especially if more than the recommended amount is taken.

• Avoid in the days before planned surgery unless your doctor agrees, because bromelain may affect bleeding.
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use, as safety data for enzyme supplements are limited.

• Blood thinners: Bromelain may increase the bleeding risk of warfarin, antiplatelet medicines or other anticoagulants; consult your doctor before use.
• Antibiotics: Bromelain has been reported to increase the absorption of some antibiotics such as amoxicillin and tetracyclines; tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are on antibiotics.
• Diabetes medicines acarbose and miglitol: Starch-digesting enzymes such as amylase may reduce the effect of these medicines; speak to your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
• Prescribed pancreatic enzymes: Do not replace or add to prescribed pancreatic enzyme therapy without your doctor’s advice.
• Xylitol: Avoid combining with other sugar-free products high in sugar alcohols if you are prone to loose stools. Xylitol is toxic to dogs, so keep tablets away from pets.
