Overview

Dyfenamic 500mg Tablet is a tablet with Mefenamic Acid 500mg declared as its active content. It is supplied in a pack size of 10s.

This is a non-prescription product and can be purchased without a prescription. Only product, safety and handling details are published on this page.

An online consultation with a DoctorOnCall doctor or pharmacist is available for this product, and a registered pharmacist reviews each order before dispatch to Malaysia or Singapore. Follow the directions on the label and on the leaflet inside the pack.

Directions for Use

Take Dyfenamic 500mg Tablet by mouth exactly as directed by your prescribing doctor, generally with or after food to reduce the risk of stomach upset, and swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water; do not take more than the prescribed dose or for longer than the course advised, as prolonged NSAID use increases the risk of side effects.

Dosage

The typical adult starting dose is 500mg, followed by 250mg every 6 hours as needed, usually for no more than 7 days unless a doctor directs otherwise; the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary should be used, and dosing in the elderly, in those with kidney or liver impairment, or in adolescents will be individualised by the prescribing doctor.

Storage Instructions

Store Dyfenamic 500mg Tablet below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, keep it in the original packaging until ready to use, and keep it out of the reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Stomach pain or discomfort
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Skin rash
  • Heartburn or indigestion

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to mefenamic acid, aspirin, or other NSAIDs, including a history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions triggered by these medicines
  • Active or past peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Severe kidney, liver, or heart failure
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis)
  • Third trimester of pregnancy
  • Active bleeding disorders

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Increases the risk of bleeding when combined with anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin) or antiplatelet medicines (e.g. aspirin, clopidogrel)
  • Should not generally be combined with other NSAIDs, as this increases the risk of gastrointestinal and kidney side effects without added benefit
  • May reduce the effectiveness of some blood pressure medicines and increase kidney strain when combined with ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or diuretics
  • Can increase blood levels of lithium and methotrexate, raising the risk of toxicity
  • Taking with food can help reduce stomach irritation

Quick Tips

  • Take with food or a full glass of water to reduce stomach upset
  • Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary, as advised by your doctor
  • Stay well hydrated, particularly in hot weather or with reduced fluid intake
  • Do not combine with other NSAIDs or aspirin unless specifically advised by your doctor
  • Report any signs of stomach pain, black stools, unusual bruising, or reduced urine output promptly

Relevant Information

Mefenamic acid is a commonly prescribed NSAID in Malaysia and Singapore for short-term relief of pain and inflammation, particularly menstrual cramps and mild-to-moderate musculoskeletal or dental pain. Because NSAIDs as a class carry risks to the stomach, kidneys, and cardiovascular system — risks that increase with higher doses, longer use, or in patients with existing health conditions — DoctorOnCall requires an online medical consultation before dispensing Dyfenamic 500mg Tablet, so a doctor can confirm it is a suitable and safe choice for you.
