Overview

HOE Pabron Cough-D Syrup contains Triprolidine hydrochloride 1.25mg per 5mL, Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30mg per 5mL and Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 15mg per 5mL and is available as a syrup. It is classified as a prescription medicine and may only be obtained with a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner.

Only product, safety and handling information is published here. Anything beyond that is explained to you directly by your doctor or pharmacist as part of your consultation.

DoctorOnCall is a licensed online pharmacy. Orders for HOE Pabron Cough-D Syrup are processed only after a doctor has assessed your suitability and issued a prescription, and every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is sent out.

Directions for Use

Shake the HOE Pabron Cough-D Syrup bottle well before use and measure each dose accurately with the dosing device/spoon provided, not an ordinary household spoon. It may be taken with or without food. Because it can cause drowsiness, avoid taking a dose before driving or operating machinery.

Dosage

The dose of HOE Pabron Cough-D Syrup depends on the patient’s age and is measured using the dosing device/spoon provided, taken at intervals as directed on the label or by your doctor/pharmacist, without exceeding the maximum daily dose. This medicine is intended for dry cough – if your cough becomes productive (bringing up mucus/phlegm), check with your doctor as a cough suppressant may not be appropriate.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Drowsiness or dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Mild confusion (especially at high doses)
  • Dry mouth

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to triprolidine, pseudoephedrine, dextromethorphan, or any ingredient in this product
  • Use within 14 days of taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) – risk of a severe reaction including serotonin syndrome and dangerously high blood pressure
  • Severe or uncontrolled hypertension, or severe coronary artery disease
  • A productive cough with excessive mucus/phlegm that needs to be cleared, unless directed by your doctor
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma or urinary retention

Drug / Food Interactions

  • MAOIs and certain other serotonergic medicines (e.g. some SSRI/SNRI antidepressants): combining these with dextromethorphan can cause serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening reaction – avoid this combination
  • Other sedating medicines, sleep aids, or alcohol: additive drowsiness/sedation with triprolidine and dextromethorphan
  • Other decongestants or stimulant medicines: additive stimulant effects (raised blood pressure, heart rate) with pseudoephedrine
  • Antihypertensive medicines: pseudoephedrine may reduce their blood-pressure-lowering effect

Quick Tips

  • Measure each dose with the device/spoon provided for accuracy
  • Use only for dry, non-productive cough – see your doctor if your cough starts producing mucus
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you
  • Tell your doctor about any antidepressants you take before using this medicine
  • Monitor your blood pressure if you have hypertension, and discuss use with your doctor first

Ingredients / Active Ingredients

  • Triprolidine hydrochloride 1.25mg per 5mL
  • Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30mg per 5mL
