Progesic 500mg Tablet

Progesic 500mg Tablet is an over-the-counter tablet containing paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen) 500mg as its sole active ingredient. It is manufactured and marketed in Malaysia under the Xepa brand, one of several long-established local brands producing paracetamol-based tablets for general household use. Each tablet is formulated for oral administration and is designed to be swallowed whole with water.

Paracetamol is one of the most extensively used and studied active pharmaceutical ingredients worldwide, and it is available in Malaysia under many different brand names and strengths, with 500mg being the standard adult tablet strength. Progesic tablets are packaged for convenient household storage, and this particular brand is largely distinguished by its manufacturer, packaging, and price point rather than by any difference in the active ingredient itself.

Progesic 500mg Tablet is sold in Malaysia in a pack of 10 tablets (10s) through DoctorOnCall’s online pharmacy platform. As with any paracetamol-containing product, customers are encouraged to check whether they are already taking any other paracetamol-containing medicines before adding this product to their routine, to avoid inadvertently exceeding the recommended daily amount.

Progesic 500mg Tablet is taken by mouth. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water; do not crush or chew it unless advised otherwise by a pharmacist.

Tablets are generally best taken after meals to help minimise stomach discomfort, although they may also be taken on an empty stomach if needed.

Before taking this product, check the label of any other medicine you are using to confirm it does not already contain paracetamol, since taking more than one paracetamol-containing product at the same time can result in exceeding the maximum recommended daily amount.

The usual dose for adults and children aged 12 years and above is 1 to 2 tablets (500mg to 1000mg), taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed.

Do not take more than 8 tablets (4000mg) within any 24-hour period. Leave at least 4 hours between doses.

This product is not intended for children under 12 years of age; a lower-strength, age-appropriate paracetamol formulation should be used for younger children under a doctor’s or pharmacist’s guidance. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered, but do not take a double dose to make up for the one missed.

• Store below 30°C, in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
• Keep the tablets in their original blister strip until ready to use, and keep the pack out of reach and sight of children at all times.

• Common: Paracetamol is generally well tolerated at recommended doses, and noticeable side effects are uncommon when the product is used as directed.
• Uncommon: Nausea or stomach discomfort in some individuals.
• Rare: Skin reactions such as rash or itching.
• Serious: Signs of a severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing) or signs of liver problems (yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, unusual tiredness, abdominal pain) — these require urgent medical attention, particularly if an overdose is suspected.
• Serious: Rare but serious skin reactions such as blistering or peeling of the skin — stop use immediately and seek medical care if this occurs.

• Known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any other ingredient in this tablet.
• Severe liver impairment or active severe liver disease.
• Not for use in children under 12 years of age; a paediatric-strength formulation should be used instead.
• Not to be taken together with any other paracetamol-containing product, to avoid exceeding the maximum daily amount.

• Regular or heavy alcohol consumption increases the risk of liver-related side effects when combined with paracetamol; limit alcohol intake while using this product.
• Long-term or high-dose use alongside warfarin or other anticoagulant medicines may affect blood-clotting monitoring; inform your doctor if you are taking anticoagulants.
• Certain anti-epileptic and anti-tuberculosis medicines may affect how the body processes paracetamol; check with a doctor or pharmacist if you are taking these.
• Do not take together with other medicines, including cough, cold, or flu preparations, that also contain paracetamol, as this can lead to unintentional overdose.

• Check the ingredient list of any other medicine cabinet product before combining it with this tablet, since paracetamol appears in many combination cough, cold, and flu products.
• Keep track of the time of each dose so you can space doses at least 4 hours apart.
• Swallow tablets with a full glass of water while sitting or standing upright.
• Keep the strip in its original packaging until just before use to protect the tablets from moisture.
• Store the pack somewhere cool and dry, away from bathroom humidity.
• Keep this and all medicines locked away or out of reach of children, as accidental ingestion of paracetamol can be dangerous.

Precautions: People with liver problems, chronic alcohol use, or malnutrition should seek medical advice before use, as they may be more sensitive to paracetamol’s effects on the liver. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use. Do not exceed the stated maximum dose, and do not use for longer than a few days without medical advice.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek medical attention immediately if an overdose is suspected, even if the person feels well, as early symptoms of paracetamol overdose can be mild or absent.
